“Don't stay here”
Reviewed 12 June 2012

Overall the hotel and bedroom were dirty and in need of repair - wallpaper coming off including behind reception, dirty carpet, pictures off wall, curtains with hooks missing etc but worst was the bathroom in the single room.....you stood at the door and the toilet wash right in front of you and you had to climb over the toilet to get to the shower/bath which was immediatley behibnd where the shower head was not attached to the wall and you certainly wouldn't have had a bath. The wash hand basin was next to the bed so acted as the bedside table. The price paid for this accommodation I could have stayed at the modern Ibis down the road. It is nothing like their website and certainly not 3 star! Many years of travelling I am used to a wide of hotels - even student accommodation I have stayed in when I worked was better than this.

awful, bad, disgusting, dirty and all words related to it!!!!!!
we never expected luxury hotel at reasonable price, but this is worse then a hostel.
rooms are so tiny that two people can move there only if one is laying on a bed...bathroom is dirty- i did not dare to go barefoot into the shower- bought slippers....all the time you have a feeling of disgust...you feel that everything you touch is dirty....even the bed linens...i had a feling that it was not cleaned after previous guests.....initially we were checked in in a room with 3 separate beds....and all you could do in this room is just stand as no more place even for two bags....then we were moved to a room with one double bed but it was even worse.....
breakfast is very basic....
internet costs 9 euros per day but it does not work!!!!!!!!
please spend 50 euro more and book some other hotel!

This is really a bad hotel. Dirty, smelly and small run down rooms.

Stayed at George V for two nights, after reading some reviews was a little apprehensive on what to expect. As the saying goes you get what you pay for, we weren't expecting luxury and it didn't disappoint. The room was clean pretty basic, take your own toiletries(, although there were wall mounted soap dispensers), also hair dryer was provided. Staff were lovely, very friendly and smiley. Only downside lift didn't work, maybe fixed for high season though. Good location would recommend, Spinnekopke, located in the square left turn out of the hotel, for an authentic taste of Brussels. Definately would stay there again, as the price was right, clean, nice staff, not 5* but worth the money

Room Tip: If you have mobility problems, stairs are steep, make sure lift is working befor you book.

Hotel was clean and in the heart of Brussels. Breakfast was advertised 7 till 10 if you didnt get to the breakfast room before 8.15 you didnt get any breakfast. When it was gone, it was gone, it didnt get replenished. A case of 1st come 1st served.. Hotel was fine if you are on a budget and it was in the heart of everything . Rooms were very noisey could hear everything that was going on outside, even people talking . Like I said, if you are on a buget and your not really bothered then this hotel is fine.

Room Tip: Try and get a room at the back of the hotel

stayed here for afew days in july 2011. The room was quite small and very basic but clean. Breakfast was included and was more than expected. Yoghurt, eggs and even ham. The hotel is 10 min. Walking from brussels city center. (grande place). A good place to stay if you are travelling to brussels on a budget.

The reviews about this hotel are polarised. I stayed here for three days and could find no real problem. I can only assume that the negative comments are from people expecting a great deal more for their money.

This is NOT a first class hotel but it is possibly the cheapest hotel in central Brussels.

It is a little difficult to find and walking here from Gare du Midi takes you through one of the less salubrious quarters of Brussels, though it's far from "dangerous". We experienced no problems at all. If the area really is full of prostitutes, junkies and muggers then they are very discreet! After dark, if you're really nervous you can always take the tram up to Bourse and walk from there though the St Gery. district which is fine.

We arrived at around 4.30 and the receptionist (who appeared to be the owner) was welcoming, friendly and spoke very good English. However the decor is rather faded and tatty and some fittings broken but our room was a reasonable size and clean. We have stayed at a few budget hotels in Brussels over the years and this compared favourably. The bathroom was larger than we expected and the beds very comfortable. Our room was on the second floor at the back, overlooking a street. There was little or no street noise.

Things to note:
The included breakfast was pretty good - hard-boiled eggs, ham, cheese, bread, jam, pastries, etc. But replenishment was erratic.
The stairs are narrow and quite steep. The lift only goes to the third floor.
You are required to leave your key at reception when going out so you may have a wait if returning very late at night. However we didn't experience any difficulty.

It is around a ten-minute walk to Grand Place so well located.

We will definitely stay here again. It's hardly Claridges but is it very inexpensive and in Brussels that's becoming increasingly rare.

Room Tip: Ask for a room that's not on the fourth floor if you are of restricted mobility as the lift only...
