We had been pointed toward the old-time, sedate Belgian place two doors away, but having already been chewed out by a train guy for not speaking French, we opted for this lively, modern spot that seemed so inviting. We really enjoyed it, the fresh decor, the nice staff and the good food. We had to get Belgian fries, after all, didn't we?

I visited Houtsiplou on the recommendation of a friend. It's bright, cheerful and colourful. Staff are very friendly and welcoming and the food and wine are good value. It's basically a burger bar/bistro, with fresh cooked and fresh tasting food, server with a smile by attentive staff.

Child-friendly restaurants that have a good menu and some character are not easy to find.
Here, we had a nice choice of food, including veggie options, friendly service, toys for the children, changing table for the baby... Everything you need for an enjoyable family lunch; which can be rare with a 4 year old, 2 year old and a 5 month old.
The staff were great in allowing us to take up space with a soggy double buggy and got us a high chair for the toddler.
The food we ordered was fair - not amazing, but nice enough.
The toilets have chalkboard walls with chalks to draw/write- which the older two thought was marvellous.
Only negatives; stairs at entrance difficult with pushchair and service quite slow - but we took this as laid back rather than rude.

Fantastic restaurant, away from main attractions. Burgers were delicious! Staff were super friendly and mult-lingual.

We called in for a beer and a portion of chips. The staff were lovely and the prices were good. It was very busy which is always a good sign.
