“Very swanky but super expensive especially with extras”
Reviewed 26 July 2011

I stayed here during a short business trip to Brussels. The hotel location is very central. The rooms are very comfortable and furnished to a very high standard. The only problem is the price, not just of the room but the extras. There is nothing much on the room service menu for less than EUR30, which if you get in late and just want a late night snack is a bit limiting. The staff at the front desk and concierge were very helpful and friendly. I'm sure you could have a very nice stay here if money was no object.

Dear Guest,

Thank you for choosing the Hotel Amigo for your business trip to Brussels.
We are glad we have been able to fulfill your expectations the time of your stay with us.
We wll address your positive comments to the Concierge and Front Office staff members, thank you.
Concerning room service, we are a little surprised by your remark as we have on purpose all dishes below 30 euros, exception made of the beef fillet at 32 euros.
There is no additional service charge on purpose as we aim to remain at an acceptable pricing with a large selection and choise with hot and cold dishes on a 24 hours basis from 12 to 32 euros.
Sorry if we did not match your needs in this respect, however we aim to remain affordable and provide a very good value for money.
Did you not get confused with the gourmet restaurant menu ?
Should you prefer to communicate further, please find my email address jvitu@roccofortehotels.com
Thank you for your comments and observations.
Very best regards

We just returned from our summer trip to Europe and could not be more disappointed and shocked with our stop in Brussels at the Rocco Forte Hotel Amigo in Brussels. We have traveled 5 star around the world and have NEVER experienced this sort of rip-off...EVER! $564 Euros per night which is nearly $1000 US dollars per night for nothing short of a 1 star hotel. Dirty carpets, horribly worn and tattered room, staff pretending to not speak English and proceeding to make snide comments in French we could understand. The most horrible experience we have ever encountered in our 15+years of International Travel. I would not visit this area again under any circumstances. They are obviously preying on the well heeled, wealthy American and other weathy International travelers, as well as taking advantage of government resources since the EU and NATO are headquartered here. No wonder our entire International Community is fighting a debt crisis, paying these ridiculous prices for accommodations such as these. Any review praising this area or this hotel is an obvious payoff or false endorsement. I consult trip advisor religiously before traveling abroad and there were few red flags leading up to our trip, however now I see many others have spoken out recently. Let's hope for the sake our our fellow trip advisor friends this contines. We stopped in Brussels for 3 days after spending an amazing week in London on our way to Paris. Anyone considering this due to the fact it is a convenient stop on the Euro Star should definitely re-evaluate their plans. It is nothing more than a tourist trap set to rob those visiting!

Dear Guest,

Thank you for your comments, sharing your views and experience in Brussels and the Amigo.
We are sorry we did did not meet your expectations.
As every hotel today, we apply the best rate of the day and the amount you have paid might seem high due to the fact there was a special event in town with an executive room.
We do constant works and improvements to keep our product up to date, please be informed your room 118 in the meantine has been fully refurbished as this part of our constant renovation program.
I feel concerned about your observation concerning the staff attitude your mention in our comments and should you be willing to let me have further information on this issue, please find my email address for further communication.

We stayed twice in June and had a great experience. The hotel is located in the perfect spot to go walking to the The key tourist areas in the center city. The reception was friendly and eager to help. The room size was good and the bed was extremely comfortable. They let me check in early and check out late on one occasion with no extra charge.

Would recommend to others if you are willing to spend above average for the room.

Only two improvements need, first it was difficult to drive to the hotel unless you know your way around due to the ongoing street repair. It would have been nice if the would have been posted on their website. Second, there is no free wifi. It would be nice to have this available in the room and lobby bar. I know I would have stayed longer in the lobby bar and spent more money.

There's nothing to complain about Rocco Forte Amigo. Reservation and check-in was efficient, the small room clean, the bed comfortable, the desk and chair very small but usable and the bath room relatively large and well equipped, breakfast the usual fare. The property is very centrally located, too - with the downside of night time noise from the streets. So I'd be totally happy if this was a three star property with three star price level ... Yes, I had a good stay there.

But it is a five star property with five star price level. And such a property needs to do better. Quite a few things need to go beyond what you expect from middle class. And there was really nothing that went beyond that point.

If you ask if I'd go back? Well, yes, but only if there was a sale or some other deep discount.

Dear Guest,

Thank you for sharing your noise concern while staying at the hotel Amigo.
We are sorry we have not been able to fulfill your comfort expectation and especially the noise disturbance.
Without exactly having more information on the origin of your noise complain, the hotel is in a very active district full of life at night with its ideal downtown location in the historical city.
For your perusal, all front facade windows of the hotel have been now replaced to provide ideal soundproofing conditions. Also more than 40 % of our rooms are located on the inside court.
We are sorry we did not meet your expectations and hope we will have an opportunity to welcome you back soonest.
Very best regards

I have visited Brussels for almost 20 years. I have stayed at the Conrad and some of the other hotels in town. My go-to place is the Hotel Amigo. Service is first-rate. Room service is excellent. Sleeping conditions are first-rate. Bathroom five stars. Internet works on first click. They've thought of everything.

My latest trip was a whirlwind of business traveler crises -- one after the other. I arrived harried and harrumphed my way into the room. The ever cheerful staffer saw the business distress I was in and simply introduced me to the Internet service -- well explained on the card. I then was able to crank out everything I needed for two meetings on two continents in five star surroundings. Room service first rate.

I like the exercise - gym area. I am always impressed at how the owners keep up the finishes. This hotel always looks new and freshly painted.

Thank you again for another 5-star stay in the heart of Brussels. (Even with road construciton outside the hotel, I heard nothing.) And you are right next to Grand Place.

We arrived to our lovely suite with a perfect view of the square to find a generous plate of fruit and box of chocolates. No detail was overlooked. We loved the double closet and dressing rooms and the decor. We had a very nice meal at the restaurant but it was the staff that made a difference. The concierge actually tracked us down at a restaurant on the square to bring us some brochures of a tour he booked for us the next day. They worked hard to book us dinner at a top restaurant and when we had one too many for the cab, quickly came to our assistance and drove part of our group. We had a great experience here.
