“Modern luxury, unbeatable location”
Reviewed 4 June 2012

Located just around the corner from the Grand Palace, this hotel is an oasis of tranquility and sophisticated, modern luxury. Our room (on an upper floor) was extremely quiet. The staff are very knowledgeable about Brussels and travelling in Belgium, and are very helpful. The breakfast buffet is elegant and delicious, and features Belgian cheeses and meats. The hotel bar is beautiful - an excellent spot for a nightcap, particularly if you're seeking respite from Belgian beer tourism. The tasteful jazz music in the breakfast room and bar adds to the ambiance of the hotel.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on a higher floor.

We are a family of five (all adults)that stayed in Rocco Forte Hotel Amigo in Burssels for two nights last April. Brussels was a part of our one month tour of Europe and the Meditteranean and we've stayed in so many kinds of accomodation in that one month. I didn't know that Hotel Amigo is a popular and even highly recognized hotel in Brussels. I was just told by several tour guides we had met during our sightseeing that it was the choiced hotel of celebrities and politicians of different parts of the world. The location is perfect for tourists. It's right in the middle of hustle and bustle and it's hard to get lost if you're staying in this hotel. Restaurants, shops, weekend markets, and the highlight of the area is which is the Grand Place is just a few walks away. The entrance or the lobby was not impressive as compared to the other hotels that are bigger in other cities but I guess the cost of the property in that part of Brussels is really high that it could be considered one of the biggest in the area. Check-in was fast, and during that time, staff was friendly. We booked standard and deluxe rooms one a bit bigger than the other but I didn't find them really spacious as other reviewers mentioned, just good enough to accomodate two persons in our case and three persons in the case of my 3 children who were billeted in a higher standard room. The rooms were clean, the beds were comfortable. At that time we arrived one of the telephones (the one nearest to the bed) was not working (they had two), and so was the heating. A repairman arrived and successfully repaired the heating but not the telephone. It was ok since we still got another one. In the room of my kids, their room had a nicer view but their curtain rod kept on falling. This really needed a replacement because until we left, it was a problem and all they could do was hang it back (and it was not easy). The bathrooms were adequate for it's purpose, clean and of good size. As others mentioned, wifi is pretty expensive and we didn't want to pay an extravagant amount for something we can have for free in the other places we stayed in. We were able to have internet access in most of the restaurants we had tried around the area without cost. We ate our breakfast there everyday and we paid 27 euros, a bit expensive but it was very good and had good selections. We especially love the marinated anchovies, smoked salmon, hot meats, cheeses, a good selection of sweet breads, croissants and muffins, fruits and a variety of spreads. In terms of service, room service was very good. We bought some food from the restaurants outside the hotel and asked for cutleries and dinner plates. We were given the whole set-up with table and some ice. Front desk and lobby staff were not as nice as when we first checked-in. Everytime we would enter the hotel, there was no greeting, or a smile, or a nod whatsoever. We didn't feel like we were guests here but merely passers by. This was quite inconsistent with regards to their attitude on the first day when we were checking in.

I found out that the published rate of Hotel Amigo is around 600 plus euros. We paid less than half for each room. Hotel Amigo was nice but not outstanding, and definitely not worth 600 euros!!!
I will stay here again for half the price.

The Rocco Forte distinguishes itself from the competition with the slogan "simple luxury" and that is indeed appropriate. No ostentation, no Louis something style, no tapestries and other aspects of imitation palaces. This is indeed simple, but very tasteful and modern luxury. The rooms differ in size, but are all quiet, stylish, with large and well-appointed bathrooms. The beds are very comfortable and amenities are excellent. The inside rooms have little view, the rooms facing the street have an interesting but not spectacular view. However, next to the stylish but simple luxury, what sets this hotel apart is its location, literally steps away from the Grand Place, the medieval marketplace of Brussels and arguably one of the great squares in Europe, if not the world. Service is excellent and unobtrusive. In short, without question the best place for me when I stay in Brussels.

I stayed here for one night with a few friends. We booked a few hours before arriving and it was no problem. The rooms were well appointed and very comfortable. The staff were helpful and this hotel is literally on the edge of the town square and close to some great restaurants and things to see.

Roughly three to four blocks from Central Station, the hotel's location is absolutely ideal. The area is loaded with tourists and heavily trafficked as its situated one block off the Grand Plas and Mannekin Pis is just a street away. Yet the hotel is clean, exudes class (let's face it heavily touristed areas run abit low on class by and large) and the service exceptional (in top hats no less). Given Brussels is a walking town, you always know where you're at and can find your way back to your hotel by looking for the Hotel de Ville (the largest spire in the Grand Plas) since Hotel Amigo is just around the corner from it. This makes navigating Brussels for newcomers incredibly simple. Rooms were very spacious and the bathroom itself was larger than the hotel room we stayed at in Paris. There was a small gym on the facility which was a really nice plus for starting the day right.

Obviously the hotel is not a bad hotel. Rather, it is fantastic. Location cannot be better, the hotel itself is very nicely decorated (in the classic way), rooms wide and clean, and the staff is fantastic. But I would expect nothing less at the prices you pay at this hotel. And I would have expected some more welcoming details, some more amenities... something more.
Two specific examples: breakfast at 40 Euros should be something pretty good. It wasn't. It was pretty standard, but with less variety and quality than the standard breakfast at five star hotels. Second, to watch a movie on your TV will cost btw. 10 and 15 Euros, and the choice is not great either.
However, my main comment on this hotel and the reason why I would not choose it to stay again is that they charge extra for WIFI. I think it was 10 Euros an hour or 30 Euros the whole day. Anyway, it's not the money (and this was a business trip). It's that I personally hate when hotels charge an extra like this was some sort of luxury. I find it unwordly, when virtually every youth hostel offers it at no additional charge.

Stayed here for one night only and was absolutely satisfied with the choice. The room felt brand new and was beautifully decorated. The staff (men in top hats) open the door and remember your name. I had their lunch special and it was fresh and prepared with great care. The fish was super fresh and perfectly cooked. Location could not be better. I would highly recommend to everyone.
