“Excellent Location, Average Customer Service.”
Reviewed 10 January 2014

We arrived at the hotel very early and were lucky to be given two out of three room immediately, with a little fuss half an hour later we received the third.
The rooms were clean and were of a decent size, extremely comfy beds.
The complementary water and the nightly re-fill's were very nice. The rooms would be even nicer if they had tea or coffee making facilities as a cup of tea within the hotel is very expensive.
We had breakfast included, on the first day we were not able to get a table big enough so had to sit separately which was a shame as we were on a family holiday, however the service and the food was very good. However on the second day which was new years day, the service was extremely slow your food arrived without the toast and when the toast eventually came it was stone cold. All food came at completely different times and you could tell there were not even staff to cope with how busy it was. We were able to pre-book a table that day so that we could sit all together.
On all three days we sat in the lounge area and had drinks/food, the service was slightly slow but manageable. However on the last day it took 30 minutes to get the bill we were in a rush to leave for the Eurostar and it was extremely slow and not that busy.
The concierge was also very helpful with recommending restaurants and calling ahead for us.

Overall, the hotel's location is the best, the features of the hotel are very nice however the customer service could be improved by having more staff. For a 5 star hotel the customer service does not represent the price.

We stayed for one night arriving late in the evening and leaving mid morning so we saw very little of the hotel besides the lobby, the hallways, lounge and bedroom. This said, the concierge and reception staff were polite and welcoming when we did see them. The hotel is well kept, very clean, spacious and tastefully decorated. The bedroom was of a good size and the bathroom was larger than I expected (as well as coming with lovely toiletries). The bed was very comfortable with good quality bedding- all you need for a good nights sleep. We spent an hour or so with a drink in the lobby- there were many other guests enjoying drinks and afternoon snacks which gave a very relaxed feel. In terms of location, the hotel was very central, just a second away from the Grand Place- however this means that it is a fair distance from Brussels Midi station. If you arrive via Eurostar it is worth paying for a taxi to the hotel.

We had a very enjoyable stay at hotel Amigo close to the Grand Place, all the shops and restaurants. The rooms were excellent and the staff very nice. Very nice breakfast buffet, we only had a glitch with our room-service when we noticed we had ordered children burgers but were delivered adult burgers at a higher price - the room-service staff said they would take note of it but didnt do anything about it. When we insisted, they finally got back to us and made sure the prices were corrected, which was nice.
Overall excellent stay, we would definitely come back!

I travel a lot and usually one of the main features i look for in any hotel is Staff and concierge services .

i am just reviewing this hotel not because i stayed , not because it has best location in center, not because it has a nice bar but because it is so service oriented .

we were lost around the city on our first night in Brussels , trying to find a good fish/sea food restaurant and my friend decided to go in Hotel Amigo ask the concierge .

Christian received us and although we declared we are not staying at Amigo he suggested a great place and called for reservation as we were his first class customers ... i really appreciated very very much the attitude and believe me , on my next trip , i wont miss staying at Amigo just to enjoy their staff services ....congratulations

What a great hotel. Really it does tick all of the boxes. The location is second to none being a 2 minute walk away from the main square and within walking distance of the Royal Palace, the Cathedral of St. Michael and St. Gudula and museums.

On arrival we were welcomed by the friendliest staff, our luggage was whisked away and before we knew it we had checked in and were in our spotlessly clean and beautifully appointed room (fantastic shower by the way). We were in the centre of a capital city and would never have known this as it was so peaceful.

The bar/lounge is decorated warmly but with a contemporary feel. Again service was everything you would expect and served courteously and with a smile.

The restaurant at breakfast was very busy and there was a queue to be shown to a table which was something of a surprise. However the staff really did their best to keep control but I couldn't help but think that the room was just not big enough. The selection was very good and of high quality and the additional breakfast menu was comprehensive.

Would I return to the Hotel Amigo? Yes. In the blink of an eye! This is really a great, non stuffy (and I thought good value) city centre hotel which manages to achieve absolutely the right balance of warm friendliness and professionalism.

We stayed 26 December for three nights and got a great rate. They offer a price match and 10% extra discount if they are not the cheapest, and they honoured this. So total was €562 for three nights inc all taxes, hi speed internet and full breakfast

Location is 25m (metres not miles!) from the Grand Place, and we came by train, which was a 3-4 minute walk from the Central Station. (I later walked to the Gare du Midi [south])and that was 20 minutes (with no baggage))

The roads round the hotel are tiny and one way, and whilst europeans with satnavs should cope, I can imagine Americans finding it tough! parking is available but looked pricey at €30 a day, and as the location is so good, most people will not need a car

Check-in was very swift, and although the room was not ready for 10 minutes, they gave us a drink and were very polite and helpful.

Room 205 looks out the back of the Hotel de Ville and the spire, and with windows closed was very very quiet. Bizzarely the heating seemed impossible to control, and they only seemed able to control it centrally. During the first night we became very hot, and it took me a while to realise I could turn the whole thing off, which solved the problem.

The room was a Deluxe King with a huge bed (probably 2m wide) and very comfortable. Bathroom immaculate and the whole set up very clean and spacious. Decor a little too "classic" for our taste, but not too Louis XIV as some of these places can be.

Breakfast was heaving, and frankly the room is not big enough for the weekend rush. But once seated (very polite and helpful service while waiting) the buffet choice was excellent and the custom items (waffles, eggs, porridge etc) excellent. Great real orange juice and lovely coffee and tea (not a given in hotels)

The room service breakfast was a bit of a let down. Not enough cold milk for both cereals and tea and coffee, and no butter. The porridge was also very solid compared with downstairs.

Although the demographic is posh middle aged (think cashmere coat and fur collars and the type of person who wears a tie on holiday) we were treated in a very friendly manner, and the door staff etc seemed to remember our names which was impressive. There were also quite a few families with small children that seemed to liven things up.

I lived in Brussels for many years, and this location cannot be beaten. Three evening meals at Le Pre Sale, Le Petit Boxeur and Bonsoir Clara (all about 5 minutes walk) were excellent quality and service, although eating out in Brussels is not cheap

All in all, very good quality hotel, and any minor quibbles (wait for room, wait for breakfast etc) were handled so graciously that they were not an issue.

The only thing that needs attention is the wifi. In 205 the signal varied from poor to non existent.

Room Tip: If wifi matters ask for one with better coverage

We spent three lovely days in Brussels over New Year staying at the Amigo, a stones throw from the Grand Place. The staff were friendly and helpful, the Bocconi restaurant was very good and the rooms were comfortable. Our only grumble was the dodgy wifi !! We've stayed in smarter / more modern Rocco Forte hotels (Prague) but the staff and location made this one really great and the bar lounge was very smart.
