Hotel Amigo is located just off the Grand Place, perfect for exploring Brussels. I asked for a quiet room and that's exactly what I got. The room was well appointed and the staff were helpful and very pleasant. Nice selection of gins in the bar too.

Room Tip: 5th floor overlooking the town hall was very quiet

Upon arriving, we were greeted in the most friendly manner. True VIP service. The beds and pillows and air temperature in the room were extremely comfortable. The location could not be better. When we arrived on Thalys from Paris, the line for a taxi was extremely long and we decided to walk to the hotel (about 1 mile). I recommend including the breakfast in the rate as it was absolutely delicious and complete. Eggs and some hot items are extra, but we found more than enough food for our liking. The staff were attentive and kind and spoke perfect English. We set up a few tours through Belgium City tours (through Viator) - which I DO NOT RECOMMEND, but the convenient thing was that it was only 1 block away. If you are in Brussels, this is the BEST hotel with the KINDEST staff in the BEST location. I will definitely only stay at Hotel Amigo on future trips.

I chose the Amigo for a four-night stay because of its location and because we have had generally good experiences in other Rocco Forte hotels. The Amigo is an easy walk, perhaps 8-10 minutes, from the Brussels Central train station. One walks through the Grand Place to reach the hotel, which is barely a minute's walk from the Place. (Under no circumstance would I advise renting a car if you plan to stay in central Brussels.) We found the staff uniformly friendly and helpful. Service at breakfast (We opted to include breakfast in our rate.) was good and the buffet included hot items and delicious breads. We made small sandwiches, which sufficed for lunch.

The deluxe room was definitely smaller than those in other hotels we've stayed at but this is an old building and the room's size was acceptable. The bathroom likewise. For various reasons, we wound up having room service dinner twice. Service was prompt. If you order a cheeseburger, consider whether to ask not to have dressing included. The burger was OK. There was free WiFi and the TV was fine for us.

We did experience a problem with the AC in our room and had to move to another where the AC was fine. Since AC and its operation has been an issue in almost every single European hotel we've stayed in, it's wise to ask for a demo on how to operate the system or even whether you can control it yourself or must ask the front desk to do so.

A wonderful (and crowded) waffle restaurant is not far from the hotel entrance. We succumbed once to the smell of fresh waffles, which really were good. Of course, the hotel is close to the Grand Place restaurants as well as others in the neighborhood. We will most remember the wonderful staff at the reception desk, the concierge desk, and even the chamber maids. We had a good stay here at a fair price for an upscale, downtown hotel.

Room Tip: Be sure the AC operates and don't hesitate for proof that it does.

Like all Rocco Forte hotels, the Amigo is superb. Sir Rocco's sister, Olga, is responsible for the decor and the Amigo shows her house style: a judicious mixture of the old and the new, magnificent use of flowers in reception and restrained luxury. The use of local culture is common to all their hotels; at the Amigo amongst others, its Tintin - what else? The rooms are so comfortable and well equipped. It was a pleasure to come back in the evening (I almost wrote to come back home!) and enjoy champagne or really good tea and coffee with chocolates. The staff were skilled, very warm and welcoming and most particularly very informed. We arrived without a tourist plan, we were quickly sorted by a super concierge lady who advised on a good walking route, places to eat and visit - wonderful and thank you.The hotel is very central, just off the Grand Place and an easy walk to the Galleries, Manneken Pis and museums. The hotel restaurant is the only decent eating place near the Grand Place (see my review) and the bar is fun. If you stay in St Petersburg, Berlin, Rome or London, the Rocco Forte hotels are the ones to stay at (and I've stayed at them all) because they have a communality which means you know what to expect but each hotel is also different and reflects the local culture. Sir Rocco is the best hotelier I know and the Amigo is proof!

Room Tip: Go for the best room you can afford, you won't regret it.

The hotel feels really classy- great location seconds from the grand place with a lovely aspirational reception and light well appointed rooms wand luxury bath rooms.

Staff were all great- very slick yet friendly.

The only reason I'm scoring this down from a 5 star is the breakfast arrangements which left us feeling a little irked. Breakfast is served in a roomy well decorated dining room with plenty of space and a lovely continental selection of pastries, fruit etc - awesome home made little wrapped butter packs.

However maybe it was a communication error but we were asked for our breakfast selection off an extensive menu. There was plenty of choice out already so we chose toast with scrambled egg and avo for me and the same but Salmon for him. It came beautifully presented but small portions which was fine- two pieces of sourdough toast, a spoonful of egg and like maybe less than a quarter of avocado and a couple of slices of smoked salmon.

All very tasty although I'd had a pastry so left the toast.

Now bearing in mind we'd paid for breakfast in the not cheap room rate- and that toast, salmon and avocado were all set out on the serve your self buffet - we were a bit shocked to be charged E14 for the eggs?? When the Continental brekkie walk in price was an eyewatering 30 euros......

Its not a lot of money but it felt penny pinching
