“Brussels Grand' Place”
Reviewed 29 July 2013

This is the most beautiful square in Europe - if not the world.
Attractive architecture - old guild houses, beautifully restored.
A picturesque place to linger and have a good look around, to sit or stand and chat with friends.
On weekends there is a flower market.
On the first Tuesday and Thursday in July, the traditional Ommegang Festival takes place here.
Every other year, on 15 August, the flower carpet provides an additional reason to visit. Every time the design is different and it is made up of thousands of begonia petals.

“Best place in Brussels”
Reviewed 29 July 2013

Beautiful place. You can just sit there for hours and take in all the marvelous architecture.
If you travel on a budget, don't eat or drink anything in one of the many restaurants on the Grand Place.

“Can't leave Brussels without seeing the Grand-Place”
Reviewed 29 July 2013

Absolutely breathtaking. The architecture, the sculptures, the gold etching-are all beautiful during the day., and it is well worth visiting at night for the light show. As others have said, there are lots of little shops and cafés all around. Depending on the season, there are different events going on. There is a market on Sunday.

“A must”
Reviewed 29 July 2013

Even for the casual visitor, the place is well worth it: plenty of pretty pictures to be taken, good Belgian beer to be drunk at one of the many terraces. The best time to visit is, of course, when there is no spectacle being prepared and the space is not encumbered by a stage or other decorations (although the once-a-year flower carpet is worth seeing too). But considering the historical interest, it is a good idea to do a bit of reading in advance to get a better idea of what all the guild houses are about. The surrounding small streets are crowded (beware of pickpockets) and full of tourist traps, but here and there one can lay one's hands on genuine Belgian articles like chocolates, lace, pastry (speculoos and pain à la grecque) and (if you're partial to it) beer.
