A great modern hotel right on grand place...an absolutely excellent place to stay. The hotel is clean and well maintained and the staff is very helpful and prompt in their service. We had booked a higher floor room overlooking the square. This offered good view and barely any street noise. However, the AC was not working. The reception said they would send someone to check it out in 10 mins, however a person came within 2-3 mins, He checked the AC in our room and then went to check the main system promising to return in 10-15 mins. 10 mins later we get a call informing us that the AC is faulty and they were upgrading us to another room. The new room as same sized but with better facilities. All in all a great place to stay. Recommended!

We visited last mid-July for a couple of nights and booked this hotel based on price and location having never been to Brussels. The location could not be better: a great compromise between the train station and the Grand Place. If you have a four-wheeled suitcase you could probably ride it down the slight hill from the station to the front door if it weren't for the wicked cobblestones.

The little plaza directly out the front door has a day and night buzz all its own when you don't feel like walking three minutes to the Grand Place, with waffle shops, cafes, bars and people watching. The Hop On/Off tour bus is just around the corner, as is the Galeries Royales Saint-Hubert with its chocolate boutiques, hat shop and more.

My rating for the hotel comes from the room itself where the desk was quite worn with missing veneer and no attempt to make better; very apparent scuffs and stains on the walls; and no real closet or place to unpack clothing. Talk about living out of a suitcase, this is your place. Also, despite having put out the "Do Not Disturb" sign before leaving the for day our room had been 'visited' and remade.

The breakfast buffet, behind the smallish lobby and decent sized lounge, was decent though a bit on the expensive side. To get a hearty meal before hopping on the Eurostar back to London, knowing our only option for several hours would be the cafe car on the train it, fit the bill. For other meals we simply went out the front door to the plaza or walked a couple of blocks to Rue des Bouchers, aka restaurant row.

If we were to return to Brussels I would keep this place in mind but also compare to the much higher rated Hotel Ibis next door or splurge on the Meridian which behind and literally a frisbee throw from the front of the train station but still a short walk to Grand Place.

Final note: the hotel staff is mostly bilingual—French and Flemish. It helps to know a little of one or the other… or to be very patient.

Was for a 2 day weekend stay in this hotel. First of all the central location is perfect. You can reach nearly every touristic spot within short walking distance, otherwise metro station is really nearby and just in front are lots of taxis. Public parking is 1 Min walk away, for 2 days I paid very cheap 27,- EUR, nearly a gift in central city. For loading / unloading you can park nearly in front of the hotel entrance. The room was functional, in normal Novotel standard. The better, I got an upgrade to a suite room, only sofa in the living was a little bit worn out. Looked as if somebody's cat "worked" it. Despite the central location it was quite, provided you close the window and run A/C. Early morning garbage removal trucks makes a lot of noise, later a market was opened. What was bad? Breakfast is low average, quite limited choice and room is really crowded. Not easy to get a table. When it comes to the invoice they "forgot" to deduct my points I wanted to pay with but charged the full amaount. Upon request they didn't credit the amaont to my credit card what I had asked for but credited the points to my accor account without any excuse or any explanation, because they didn't do what I asked for..

Hotel Novotel Brussels of Grand Place is located, as its title apply, near Grand Place and only a few steps away from Brussels Central station, which makes it ideal both for travelling to other parts of Belgium and exploring central Brussels.
I stayed there with my wife and 6 year old daughter in July for 3 nights. We booked for a triple room (1 double bed and a sofa bed) but at check in i asked the lovely lady at the reception if it was possible to put a roll-away bed in the room and use it instead of the sofa bed.
Immediately she arranged a room for us which had enough space for an extra room. Surprisingly after installing the extra bed there was plenty of space left in the room for our suitcases and for us to move around.
As said above the room was spacious, it was very clean with coffee-tea facilities, sat flat tv and a refrigerator which had plenty of space to put our choice of staff inside.
The room had 2 bathrooms, actually the toilet was separate from the main bathroom and it was next to the main entrance of the room. The only downside of that was that after using the toilet in order to wash our hands we had to go to the main bathroom.
The main bathroom was spacious and clean with both a shower and a bathtub. Water pressure was really good, the only downside was the mould around the corners of the shower. I believe its very easy for the hotel to remove that mould and make it look even more clean.
Sleeping experience was excellent! Very comfortable beds, and the room even though it was on the first floor overlooking the road was really quiet (triple glazing windows).
We booked the room including breakfast for a good deal and did not regret it at all. Breakfast was nice with plenty of choices (bread, toast, croissants etc).
Definitely will return back to this hotel when in Brussels, not only for its central location but also for the spacious and clean rooms!

Room Tip: If you find a good deal including breakfast, take it.

This hotel is set in a brilliant location on a lovely little square off Grand Place. It’s perfectly located for sightseeing in Brussels with both the metro and Brussels Central station but a few steps away and all the major sights within a kilometer.

The hotel is clean and modern but a little soulless. Reception is efficient but not exactly friendly and welcoming but no worse than any other multinational chain.

Breakfast is taken behind the bar in a plain but perfectly functional room and is a self service buffet. The choice is very large and covers all the bases from breads and pastries, through Cereals and fruit and onto hot waffles and bacon. Toast, coffee, tea and fruit juice compliment the food.

The room was a good size, clean, in good condition, comfortable and properly air conditioned – all very positive. Add in a comfortable sofa, widescreen TV, free wireless, Juliet balcony, tea and coffee in the room and it all looks really good, and it is – mostly.

However, for a full service hotel at this price point there are a few things which are a tad annoying and cheap feeling. First off the toilet and bathroom are a distance away from each other. Not good when you want to wash your hands, and add in the additional issue of the bathroom door being beside the bed so you bump into it or the other half when coming in or out and you quickly get fed up.

Then there is the wi-fi – it’s free so what’s not to like - well the speed for one. It would have been quicker to fly home and use my own broadband than wait for the free wi-fi to bring up a page. In the end we resorted to our own phone’s data roaming 3G. If you offer something make sure it works.

And of course the provision of cheap paper cups for the tea or coffee in the room would be just about acceptable in an Ibis or Holiday Inn express level hotel, but Novatel?

If this sounds a little petty it’s not meant to, merely a comparison with the Ibis which is literally next door, offers much the same service from the same hotel stable and at a lower price. We enjoyed our stay at the Novatel and had a great time in Brussels so we will be back, but not at Novatel rack rates.

I did consider a 4* score as we did enjoy our stay, but in the end I stuck with 3*’s because whilst there is nothing wrong it, some things are not good enough for a full service hotel at this price.

We stayed for 3 nights at Novotel Brussels grand place. Hotel location was excellent. Very close to the grand place and to downtown shopping, restaurants, and pubs. Hotel enjoys free wifi. However we where miss received when the receptionist charged me 3nights on my credit card although our reservation was prepaid prior to our travel. It took her and her superior more than an hour to double check my pre paid reservation. In addition the room service was not so quick in replying to our requests. No one helped us in our luggage, they provided a trolley that we used to transfer our luggages to and from room. As a result next time we visit Brussels we will make sure to stay at a better serviced hotel.
