“Central loc., Not far from train station, but glass wall into bathroom”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 25 July 2014

The hotel is within an easy, relatively short walk from the train station, and is very close to the Cathedral of St Michael and St Gudula. Easy walking from the hotel to most of the City's attractions, including the stunning Grand Place. The staff was friendly and helpful. We had a room with two beds and they were far enough apart. However, there is a glass window / wall thing that looks into the bathroom that is not frosted over enough! I stayed here with my mom & we tested it - we could see more than we wanted!! So...we were very careful with our use of the bathroom! This should be better addressed, especially in rooms with 2 beds! Very likely this hotel caters a bit more to single travelers on business. In fact, we were here during the work week, and the peak shower time before 9 AM left us cold. Literally! The water in the shower did not get warm until after 9 AM.
The TV was old tube type - not a flat screen, but there were a few channels in English and other languages. Our room did not have a view, and we were okay with that. We did look out onto an office building, so the curtains were necessary! The walls were pretty thin, too - we could hear our neighbors in the adjoining rooms. The bed was not that comfortable, either. The halls were narrow and kind of smelly. The lobby had an area with food, wine & beer for purchase out of refrigerated shelves / units, but we got directions to a nearby grocery store, and were able to buy wine, breads, and things for breakfast quite inexpensively. We did not spend the exorbitant 24 euros per person on breakfast here. There's the grocery store, as well as plenty of great options for waffles, coffee, etc. nearby. Actually, the train station is close enough that one day we actually walked there to get a Starbucks coffee and yogurt. I know, I know, but we had been in Belgium for two weeks already so we caved in that one time!! Sorry that the review is not that great. I'm a forgiving type and enjoy lots of types of hotels, but I'd bet there are other options that are just a bit better. Again, I'd say the best part of this hotel is its central location. We would look for something else next time.

The main advantage of this hotel is good location with respect to Grand Place and the surrounding historic center of Brussels. The spot is not particularly nice, however. The hotel is part of a larger building hosting also another hotel on the other side of the block and many rooms are inside and very dark. The rooms are small, much smaller than the 4 star standard. I had booked a superior room which was very small with the disadvantage of having the toilet seperately from the bathroom. Asking to make sure this was truly a superior room, they informed me that it indeed was, because it was larger (!) and with the separate toilet -- to me very inconvenient. The TV was old, not with a flat screen. The hotel looks overall dated and has a strange smell in the corridors. The elevators are very small and the lobby is almost inexistent apart from the front desk itself. Breakfast was OK (nothing particular) but overpriced at 24Euros, as is the usual practice at NH. I particularly disliked their practice of selling these particular rooms as superior (which they were not) and the old and dark looks of the hotel. I would not go back.

Room Tip: Do not give anything extra for superior rooms, as they are not really superior (they just have separ...

We've been there last week. I can say that staff is very helpful and nice. I was talking to one of the staff members named Anna asking her to help me regarding location and even some good restaurants which i was interested to visit. She helped me alot corresponding with emails giving me all the info. At the reception also we were treated very good. Would like to thank all the staff there for their great attitude... It was an amazing holiday.

Hotel itself has a very good location close to the grand place, but I don't remember when I have slept before in so bad bed - it was like a hard rocking chair with lot of noise. Also the air condition didn't work so we kept window open and we couldn't sleep because of the street noise. Bathroom and breakfast were good.

Good morning,

I want first to thank you for taking the time to leave a comment about your stay with us, as it is always helpful to know how our customers experience our hotel.

We lately changed the beds in almost 50 % of the hotel rooms and for sure the rest will be done before the end of the year. However, it seems that the bed in your room is particulary bad, so for sure it needs to be changed immediatelly.

Also, the air conditionned need to be checked as we have changed the whole installation two months ago and it should work properly in all rooms.
Will you please be so kind to tell me in which room you stayed?

This will help me to take direct action in order to remediate these issues.

With my best regards,

Olga CADAR

Stayed here for 3 nights in July and was very pleased with the hotel. The location was very central which made sightseeing and travelling very easy. The room was basic but clean and air-conditioned. The breakfast each morning provided a wide selection of food, the breakfast area is not very big but we never had to queue for a table during our stay. The staff were generally pleasant and helpful. Would recommend this hotel to anyone coming to see Brussels and the surrounding areas.

We have just returned after three nights at the NH Grand Place Arenberg and can honestly report that it was very decent - I even managed to watch the World Cup final in their lobby!

We opted to stay in one of their suites (Rm 701) which afforded a sideways view of the Cathedral from the top floor of the building. The location is excellent, just a short stroll from Grand Place and most of the best bars and restaurants in the city.

During our stay we had fabulous meals, drinks and service at Arcadi, 'T Kelderke and Mort Subite, all of which we can recommend - we also ate at Pasta Divina which was fine, but not quite as good as people have reported elsewhere.

The hotel was everything we expected and we would recommend booking a suite - no issues with noise at any point during our stay. The rooms were very clean and we never had an issue with the cleaners coming in at the wrong time, it appears to be something the management have addressed.

Just one or two minor issues with the room - the only mirror is in the bathroom, but nowhere else in the suite; the separate toilet cubicle is tiny and there is no towel in there (nor anywhere to keep one!); and the 'over-bath' shower was poor - it is controlled by the mixer taps on the bath, which I hate! The temperature fluctuated wildy, and I just felt for the money that a separately installed 'proper' shower should be a standard fitting.

But there were plenty of positives, too - a HUGE king-size bed, a mini bar/fridge, complimentary tea and coffee, free bottled water, a nice bath robe and two pairs of slippers, a quality flat-screen TV with BBC1 and BBC2, good lighting, lots of space, nice decor, a complimentary electronic safe - plenty of good facilities.

Breakfast was OK each morning - plenty of choice and we loved being able to have breakfast until noon on the Sunday! The cooked options were a bit basic and largely tasteless, but there were adequate continental choices and plenty of juice, coffee, tea, etc.

The staff on the front desk were brilliant - very friendly, always smiling and couldn't do enough for us during our stay, from helping with taxis to providing us with maps. Really good.

Would we stay there again? Probably. Could they make any improvements? One or two.

Room Tip: Suite 701 has a reasonable top-floor view and was very quiet throughout our stay

Have stayed at this hotel for a few years now. It offers reasonable value for money and clean accommodation. Rooms are not very big but provide everything you need. Breakfast area is not that large, but provides a fairly good breakfast. All in all for a weekend in Brussels, very close to the railway station and Grand Place, it takes a lot of beating.

Room Tip: Higher floors are likely to be quieter and more chance of a balcony.
