“A great boutique hotel, perfect if you're looking for a bit of luxury”
Reviewed 21 August 2013 via mobile

The Stanhope Hotel is a lovely boutique hotel about a 15minute walk from the bustling Grand Place.
From the minute you enter the building, it looks spacious and elegant. It really is beautiful. There are buses available a short walk from the hotel and Troon metro station is about a 5 minute walk. However, we decided to walk and we discovered beautiful architecture, sculptures and a beautiful park on the way. It would've been a shame to miss this.

The staff were extremely helpful with directions, recommendations, all of which were marked on a map to take with us as we explored the city. There was no free wifi which I would expect to be a standard feature of most hotels.

We stayed in a business suite and it was perfect. We got a very good deal through a hotel website. The bathroom was roomy with twin sinks, a separate bath and shower and a good selection of toiletries etc. We had a very comfortable stay and would certainly visit again.

Got this hotel on a website deal, everything went smoothly.

Staff very helpful, spoke excellent English, very friendly.

The rooms are beautiful and nicely decorated, classic, good beds and stacked mini bar...huge prices , like everywhere else in the world.

The breakfast was very good, plenty of variety and good quality .

There is an inner garden with BBQ and tables - lovely atmosphere in the evening and they serve a buffet as well .

We had a pleasant stay, very happy with the hotel.

We stayed here for the weekend and really enjoyed the hotel. The room was big and the bed was comfy.
A lot of the power sockets didn't seem to work in the room which was annoying but not worth moving rooms for.

cons:Tax of 10 euro a night is annoying.
pros: staff were very helpful and friendly

+ The hotel is located in a quiet but convenient location, in a side street near Trône metro station, which is five stops from Gare du Midi for the Eurostar train services.

+ There is local shopping, nearby in Rue du Luxembourg, which has a side street with a selection of restaurants, and there are more shops with lower prices in Chaussée de Wavre, off the next metro Porte de Namur. There are discount shops close by, such as Carrefour Express in Rue du Luxembourg and Lidl in Chaussée de Wavre.

+ The hotel is within walking distance of the tourist areas, 10 minutes from the Palais Royale, Parc de Bruxelles, Place Royale, Coudenberg and Musée Magritte, and 20 minutes from Grand Place.

+ Our bedroom and bathroom were spacious, comfortable and well equipped.

+ The hotel staff were all pleasant and helpful.

+ The buffet full breakfast is very good but expensive if not included with the room.

- The hotel entrance has steps that are awkward for people with heavy cases, elderly people, and people with push chairs or wheel chairs.

- The hotel does not provide adequate information to guests on how to use the hotel facilities. For example, we found that the electric devices in the room did not work, and rang reception, who just said they would ask a housekeeper to call and check. No one came, so we asked a passing staff member, who told us that the room card key had to be inserted into a device by the door. There should have been a notice to this effect by the device, and the receptionist should have realised what the issue was and told us to use the card key.

- The locking of the room door using the card key did not work reliably, and it took a considerable time of trial and error, even for a staff member we asked, to get the door to lock. It is unacceptable that guests and hotel staff have to try repeatedly for ten minutes or more just to lock a door, and such an unreliable locking method gives little confidence that the door will stay locked.

- The hotel does not offer free internet, and charge guests after the first hour of use on each stay.

- The hotel does not provide any tea making facilities in the room.

Room Tip: The rooms on the 'loft' area on the main entrance side are fine and are reasonably quiet, bu...

I just came back from a two-nights stay in Bruxelles for work. I chose the hotel for its attractive rates appearing on Olotels (which would better clarify that the city tax - about 10 Euros a night - must be added and paid locally!!!), which advertised also quality of rooms and the presence of air conditioning. The beauty of the hotel was soon spoiled. As soon as I entered my room #107 (a beautiful two story room, with old-England style furniture, sofas, large bureau), temperature was unbearable. I tried to make the A/C work out: no way! The flow of cool air was feeble, regardless of the keys I would press. Opening the window made it better, but still very uncomfortable. Second bad surprise: the shower "pistol", placed on the old-time style bathtub, did not keep on the stand, and it fell down regardless of my attempts to fix it. It was midnight, I gave up the shower (the morning after I took a bath) and went to sleep. Third surprise: at about 6:00 AM a truck starts delivering foodstuff in the store in front of the hotel, on the other side of the alley on which my window opens. The workers use metal carts, in a disturbingly noisy way. I get back to sleep when they are over, at about 6:20. I wake up, take some pictures to the shower and a dangerous electric socket in the bathroom; the socket comes out of the wall, and there is dust on it, witnessing the long time the problem has been there. At that point, I report to the reception, asking straight to the kind blonde reception lady clerk to give me a form to file a complaint. No way, she tells me she will take care of the problem. I insist, but no form seems to be available. Anyway, when I come back to my room, the shower is fixed and a chocolate box is on the table, with a pre-printed standardized letter of apologies from the manager. This was nice. Unfortunately, the air conditioning was not working ... So I spent my second and last night in this hotel, sweating and angry. In the morning I thanked the lady for the chocolates, and I mentioned that nonetheless the AC was still not working properly. She candidly admitted that that was a problem still. Sorry for this hotel.... I will give a not totally bad evaluation nonetheless...

Room Tip: Check that the air conditioning is working!!!

We stayed at this 5* hotel last week for one night and had a lovely time. The rooms were spacious, bathroom immaculate and breakfast varied with hot food available. The staff were attentive and very helpful with advice for restaurants and sightseeing. They offered us a garage for the car at 25 euros which we thought was a bit steep but the area seemed very safe with plenty of spaces on the sideroads so we parked right outside the hotel. It was supposed to be well over 200 euros per night plus breakfast but we got a deal via our daily newspaper and so paid only 100 euros including breakfast. It was well worth this as the service was superb - they even had bowls of fruit around the hotel for guests to help themselves - but I'm not sure it would such good value paying full price. It was 3 mins walk to the Palace and 10 mins walk to the centre so really well placed for sight seeing. There is a spa but we didn't have time to use it.
