“authentic brewery”

Nice tour of the brewery. You also get to taste some of their beers. Really showed us how the whole process of beermaking works, more in particular for the gueuze beers, typical of the Brussels area.

“Informative self guided tour with tasty beers”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 1 August 2012

The hostess was quiet informative about all of the brewing process then the self guided tour was a good experience. The beer tasting at the end was good, but was limited to 2 small beers but for 12EUR how can you complain.

“very interesting”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 30 July 2012

Lovely to see behind the scenes of a friendly, family run, traditional business. Brilliant value for money, two free beers included. I am a non drinker and even I found it fascinating. A true skill and unique to Brussels. Makes other brewing places sound like cheap imitators. In a strange location where it seems a bit out of place but it is the original set up. Perhaps there could be more signs to it. Get the metro to lemmoniers and walk from there. Well worth the trip.

“Great to see, wish they had more non-standards available”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 21 July 2012

If you love lambics, this will be five stars for you. It is simply amazing to freely walk through the brewery, smell the smells, see all the barrels, lust after the old bottles you see tucked away in random boxes, and to see thousands of bottles of Cantillon stacked up, when in the US, it is a miracle to find a single bottle.

If you don't like lambics, or don't know what they are, I imagine this will still be interesting, but not hold the reverence that it does for lovers of the style.

My only complaint is that it would have been nice to sample more than the standard gueuze and Rosé. I came a very long way, treat me to something other than your most common beer.

“Interesting and good if you're into beer”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 19 July 2012

We toured this brewery on our second day in Brussels, and I would say that unless you are really interested in the brewing process, maybe this would stay towards the lower half of your to-do list in Brussels.

It is a do-it-yourself tour. You get a pamphlet of information and you walk yourself through the building according to numbers on the walls. It is interesting to see everything, but they weren't actually making anything when we were there, so it was a little less exciting than maybe it would be if there is more going on.

At the end of the tour you get a tasting of two of their beers. The taste might not be for everyone, but I was glad to have experienced it. I had never heard of their beers before, but now I'm seeing them in bars here and there!

If you walk to the brewery from downtown, you do pass through an area that's a little dicey, but if it's during the day and you're used to living in a major city, then it's not a big deal. It's also a very short walk from the main train station there.
