We found the Grand Place to be too crowded and not really enjoyable with all the restaurants and bars being intolerably packed.
The Place de Sablon is a very different animal though - with the flea markets and pretty gardens and church to visit. There are the vast array of chocolatiers to choose from as well a good selection of bars and restaurants with outside seating. Some are good and some are lousy - but that's the same wherever you go in the world.
