“A little village in the city”

Place Ste. Catherine

I've lived in Belgium for 4 years now and I've now adopted this area as my own little village. Less touristic and lots of lovely places to eat and drink and just hang out. If you're in luck, you'll find the BEST fries in Brussels at De Corte. It's a big caravan that's only there from April till November. I used to work at Noordzee, the best fish shop around, where you can have a glass of champagne and any sea food in season, outside at the fish bar, all year round. Stop at the Roskam (on Vlaamsesteenweg) for a great beer (also good cosmopolitans). It's a beautiful area with lovely architecture, a must see while in Brussels!

One fo the few areas that has actually been swept! The rest of Brussels was filled with litter and fag-ends from the endless smokers, but this little square, tucked out of the way was actually neat & tidy. The ViaVia cafe nearby is a very chilled relaxed place. It gets 5stars in comparison to the REST of the city which was filthy & broken but in broad city terms its pretty average.

It's a nice square with some good restaurants like I Latini, a very good Italian restaurant. It's also a nice neighbourhood where yoy find a lot of restaurants and pubs in the streets around the square like Vlaamse Steenweg, Dansaert,.... When the weather is fine you can enjoy a drink on a nice terrace or eat some oysters at the Noordzee at one of the corners of this place. You can find also a lot of clothing shops in the Dansaertstraat nearby.

This place is really grey and rustique! Almost depressing. Houses are not that well kept and there are not lots of trees or anything else green. However, sunny summer day or Christmas market totally save this place. (Fish restaurants around are mostly overprices and do not offer such a delicious food.)
