“Not bad, Brussels itself was a disappointment”
Reviewed 22 July 2014

Stayed here for 4 nights in May. Average hostel, 10 minute walk from the centre. We enjoyed the free breakfast and wifi. Brussels was a disappointment for the 'Capital of Europe', the best part was Mini Europe.

Staff was extremely hospitable. We arrived before our check in time and they allowed us to store our bags shower and eat the complimentary breakfast. Nice open common room. I would definitely recommend to stay here!

Our room literally stank when we walked in, so had to leave the windows open all the time. Stayed up on the fourth floor, no elevator eother. It was a 6 person dorm with three bunk beds, and hardly any room to move around or put our packs and things anywhere. No lockers in the room. The sink looked like it hadn't been cleaned in a long time, and even the walls were dirty. I could hear the people talking in the next room as if they were in our room. The showers were pretty gross and mine was broken and sprayed water everywhere as well. The breakfast was mediocre and the only good part was the kitchen where we could make our own food. It's fine for a place to sleep I guess but overall this hostel was very depressing. Would not recommend it.

Description for Building 13, four person room
-Two plugs for charging in a four person room
-NO LOCKERS IN ROOM
-No bathroom in room
-Creepy alley location through a very questionable route. The walk from the train station to the hostel is not something I can recommend. All the walls of the alley where the hostel is are covered with graffiti
-Room resembles a prison cell, stark, cement floors and walls
-Not clean, has a very pungent smell upon arrival
-You have to pick up two sheets at reception and make your own bed, the pillows are of a strange massive lumpy material. It looks like they threw the pillows in a washing machine.
-Mattress extremely thin, no hooks or shelves for items
-Must be into walking long distances to attraction or investing in a metro/bus transport.

I have stayed in hostels in four european countries. This is by far the worst. Spend a little more and stay somewhere that less resembles boot camp.

This place was clean enough to keep me satisfied. The staff wasn't as friendly as other hostels I've been too. The location is about a 10 minute walk to the city.. which doesn't sound bad but it's about 30 minutes to the center of the city and 50 minutes to the opposite side of the city. It's definitely do-able for those who are accustomed to the European style of walking everywhere, however, my friend from America was worn out after the first day of walking everywhere. We had to take a Metro to get to certain places in the city. The wifi did not work well at all on the third floor as they had promised, however it worked in the commons area. The bar staff was awesome and I met some awesome people staying at the hostel. The walls are super thin so you can hear EVERYTHING in the room next to you. It's not my favorite place but I'd probably be willing to go back for the price!

The hostel is divide in two building so maybe there are some differences between them. Mine was the building 13 without reception. The room was't very clean but it was okay (check the number of the bed!) one cons was that there were no lockers in my room but many advice to pay attention to theft. In fact the lockers in the other building where all broken. The shower are very big but not so user friendly. The breakfast is good and the position too, is very close to Gare de Bruxelles-Nord so if you came by train you should stop there. WI-FI free and you can leave the luggage to the "lockers room" if you arrive early.

We stayed as a group of 26 University students, for 5 nights.
Pros:
- Has a great lounge area, to hang out.
- It has a bar with fairly cheap beer.
-Meeting rooms (great for school groups).
-Really close to the Carrefour supermarket and great kebab places, also close to the metro.
-Most of us slept well in decent beds
-Staff members are nice, especially Sebastian who was very informative and helpful! Breakfast staff didn't seem too happy.

Cons:
-NO SOAP. There wasn't any soap in any of the bathrooms and no mirrors.
-The showers were terrible, they'd turn of every couple of seconds and the heating was faulty. Sometimes the showers would be extremely cold and sometimes very hot. The water gushes everywhere, the shower heads should be replaced.
-The bathrooms could use hooks for towels or simply places to put your stuff.
-The breakfast lacks variety, just white bread with ham and cheese. Sometimes there was different types of cereal.
-All the floors creek, our rooms slanted. New floors/beds would make a great difference.
-No safety boxes to secure your stuff.
-The wifi was pretty weak, can only really get wifi sitting by the reception. Rarely could you be connecting in the rooms.
-The light sensors in the bathrooms and in the hallway are timed with too short intervals. (Students complained of this while going to the bathroom)
-Not the cleanest hostel - but decent. I've stayed in many hostels worldwide and also work at one so I found this stay to be average, some of the students had never stayed at a hostel before so they were quite mortified at first, but everyone adapted.

All in all, the stay was ok. The prices fit the value. Probably a lot different when staying individually, not as a group.
