“Very ok for the price”
Reviewed 22 September 2013

I had a nice stay at this hotel.

The staff was friendly and helpful.

The room was pretty small, we had to jump over the little drawer in order to get to the other side of the bed. The bathroom looked old, however it was clean and the towels (as well as the sheets in the bedroom) were changed everyday.

The breakfast was varied and actually enjoyed it.

The location is very good- 5-7 minutes away from Grand Place and 10 minutes away from Brussels Zuid Station. Getting there was easy when coming from the airport so we did not have to carry the luggage around.
At first I was a bit afraid on the avenue as it seemed creepy and with only a few people walking around, however afterwards it felt pretty safe.

I would recommended for those who are on a budget.

10 minute walk from Brussels Midi station – crossing one very busy street. Located on Stalingrad Ave with other small hotels & sidewalk cafes, but a bit scary after dark if you are alone. Room was clean & quiet, though I was at back of hotel. Breakfast room looked good, though I didn’t participate. No AC. Small flat screen TV in room, but no English TV. Basic for one night.

Well if you are looking for a safe, well situated quality hostel for a night or two - look no further - but don't think the 10 to 12 euro a night room difference in saving with its Grande Cloche neighbour will buy you a quality product. This is an ideal place for ' the lads' having a weekend in Brussels or those backpacking on a tight budget. Nice and helpful staff and certainly safe and fantastic local restaurants and cafes near by. My tip is to have coffee and light breakfast over the road saving the 6 euro extra charge per person.

We stayed here for 2 nights last week. The rate we payed was very reasonable, considering we booked last minute during the Easter holidays. The check in was fantastic. The receptionist was friendly, and managed to fix a mistake I had made with the booking. It was mostly downhill from there though. The room was shabby, with discoloured walls, cobwebs, and dust. The bed was only a 2inch thick foam mattress on a wooden bed frame, which wasn't very comfortable. The bedclothes were 2 sheets and one of those old fashioned blankets that are not washed each time, which i always think is unhygienic in a hotel. The radiator worked well though, and we were warm even though it was snowing outside. The water pressure was good. The night receptionist the next day was unfriendly, unhelpful and rude. I was trying to print boarding passes, and asked him if he could translate which button was 'save' (it was in french) which he wouldnt. Location was ideal for us. 1 minute walk to a cafe on boulevard anspach - €7 for 2 large coffees, 2 panninis, and freshly squeezed oj! 5 or 10mins to grand placee, which is beautiful. I would stay in this area, but not in this hotel.

First thing I should add is it's not the most well signposted hotel I've ever seen, quite so it took me forever to find it and only managed it after asking at the nearby Bedford Hotel!

It is an old, unloved place that's apparently both 2 and 3 star rated. Shower was good enough, couldn't get the TV to work and the bed rather uncomfortable. Seriously, I've been on some uncomfortable trains which are far better than that bed was. I too found the WiFi to be very slow and unreliable, gave up with it. The room was clean and tidy mind, but struggling to unlock the door wasn't amusing. Breakfast was not bad mind, €6 on top of the room rate of €46. Filled up most significantly on food but as usual my European coffee experience is not enjoyed. Staff were friendly and helpful though which is good. Finally the room was rather small, especially compared to the hotel room I had the next night in the UK which was over twice the size!

I don't personally recommend the hotel, but if desperate then it's still better than an overnight trip on the trains!

I was staying in same hotel 2 years ago and having good memories on its location and services I was booking again...but this time wasn't a good experience...no heating and - degrees outside, more than 15 minutes letting the water flow waiting for warm water...
The personal attentive and helpful still

Fairly friendly staff and an excellent location (equidistant between gare midi and the old town, grand place etc.), but the whole place is a bit old and unloved. Frankly it's a little expensive for what it is, but on this trip we didn't care so much as the location was very good.
