I've spent some days in B&B-Brussels@Heart apartment Manon, from Sunday afternoon up to Wednesday morning. The apartment is very clean, quiet with a pleasant scent of fruit and chocolate. The bed is large and restful. It takes only 7-10 minutes to walk for St Catherine Place, or 15 minutes to Grand Place. A very good breakfast, maybe too sweet for me :). The owners are very kind and offer help whenever I've requested (indicating on e-mail or SMS way to arrive, restaurants, places to visit etc). Thanks again Magali&Cedric!

Very nice and clean suite, charming decoration. Perfect location with everything on walking distance. Very good breakfast. This place is top! Minor disadvantage: female sex workers around and the discussions with their clients cause some noise at night.

I'd stayed here before a few years ago and found it convenient for where I needed to get to the next day. However, I hadn't realised when I booked that the management had changed (for the worse). The guy who ran it before was lovely but there was no sign of him. The owners emailed a few days in advance with a security code for the front door. We arrived in the middle of the afternoon to find about a dozen prostitutes waiting for business on the pavement outside the B&B. Not a great start. We then had to find this code to get in the front door. No owners to greet us. No staff on the premises full stop. Just a horrible smell that hits you from when you first walk in. There was then another code for the door to the rooms. I don't know whether these codes are changed after each guest or whether previous guests, in theory, could still access the room.

Anyway, I went to sleep to the sound of prostitutes chatting to each other and to punters on the pavement outside. I was then woken at 3am by blood curdling screams and a man shouting angrily that we was going to stab someone. I felt very vulnerable as a woman on my own (my colleague was staying in another room and she was terrified too).

Breakfast in the morning was an open pack of cornflakes and some cartons of long life milk and Dairy Lea cheese slices left outside my door. I gave that a miss, got out of there as quickly as I could and bought breakfast at a nearby cafe.

Never again!

First of all, thank you for your review. We always can find a lot of points to improve ourselves in all the reviews.

Nevertheless, we would like to respond to your comment as we think it is not correct at all.

You are right we you say that the previous owner was a lovely person, we know him and we have seen each other a lot of times. Yes, we always give an access code so that you can arrive at the time you want and you can always get access even if you are arriving late and we are not present. One other reason it that the access code is more secure as you can lost a key in the street and so let access to somebody else. We of course change the access code for every guest, the same code is only valid for the entry door and the reserved room and the code is automatically deactivated after the stay.
By the way, sometimes we don't receive the information about the time of the arrival of the guest (it was your case as we have received no answer to all our emails and phone messages) so by having this code you were able to access at any time. For information, at the time of your arrival, we were simply at work...

Concerning the prostitution, it is now completely forbidden in the street (regulated by law)so there are less and less prostitutes and I'm sure there was a lot more during your last visit so you were coming again although you were knowing this old situation and you have made no comment about this fact before... The noise you can sometimes ear in the street is not our... We don't have our hand on every person’s walking in the street, understand that you are in a capital city and also that you are in a private house. Concerning the security, I don't know if you have seen but the entry door is also reinforced, it is not a simple door, it was not the case before.

Concerning the breakfast, we are sorry but some of your comments are false or missing. We have made the choice to put it in a basket in front of every room every morning as a lot of people prefer to take their breakfast in the room at the time they want and evenly take the breakfast in bed. Cheese, butter, yogurt, so everything that need to stay fresh is already in the fridge in the bedroom at your arrival. You also forget to mention that there are fresh "Croissant", chocolate bread and normal bread that we buy every morning. Concerning the milk, cornflakes, we have chosen to give you packs as by this way you are sure they are yours and that nobody has opened them before you. Even if, in other places, the milk is not necessary in closed pack, do you think there is a cow in their cellar? We think that the only solution for you to know that those foods are only yours is the way we are doing. You also forget to mention that you have a Senseo at your disposal in the room to have coffee when you want as the necessary to have tea without any supplement.

Fortunately, a lot of persons are also happy to come in our house as we know by all the sympathetic email we are receiving, thanks to them.

Regards,

Magali & Cedric

This was the most perfect stay in Brussels.
We had the deluxe room for myself, my mother and grandmother.
It was pure luxury. We really loved the marble bathroom with luxurious shower.

The concierge were wonderful and gave us the best advice on the non-tourist routes to walk around the beautiful city and couldnt have been more helpful.

Breakfast was perfect and very rich and set us up for a long day of sightseeing, they have everything from continental breakfast to English style breakfast!

The best place we stayed.

Brussels@heart is getting so often fully booked that it should be kept secret ! After several mediocre/bad experiences in Brussels hotels, i finally found THE place :-) All 3 rooms are elegant with a cosy decoration, fully equipped, and with meticulous attention to refined details :  houseplant, candles in the bathroom, and welcome chocolates among others ... But all that is  nothing compared to the wonderful guesthouse host, Carmelo. Each trip to Brussels has become a true enjoyable moment, since I know that Carmelo will make me feel like being home :) I hope getting very soon my "frequent Carmelo guest" card to ensure availability each time I'm coming :-)

Let's start with the host/owner, Carmelo. As others have mentioned, the man is wonderful. He is warm, personable, quick to respond to emails, and full of incredibly helpful tips on Brussels (be sure to ask him about the map put out by the locals). In addition, Carmelo went above and beyond the call of duty when he:
1) asked if we had given any thought to making New Year's Eve reservations (we had not)
2) offered several suggestions based on our preferences
3) not only made the reservation for us, but also put down the cash deposit required for the reservation! (we paid him back, of course)

Next, on to the accommodations: Our suite was spacious, warm, and well appointed. The bed was quite comfortable as well (something we always appreciate). Breakfast was served buffet-style and offered a nice variety of breads and rolls w/preserves, fresh fruit, cereal, and yogurt, along with juices, coffee and tea. Oh, and the wi-fi worked perfectly!

Now, here is something to consider: We knew when we booked our stay that the B&B was located in a red light district but did not think it would be a problem, based on the reviews that we had read. However, even though we never felt unsafe as we walked past the prostitutes and their clients several times each day, we had not considered the noise level on the street at night. Silly us! The shouting and laughing on the street below our rooms woke us several times the first night (Dec. 30th) until things calmed down around 2 or 3 AM. HOWEVER, on Dec. 31st (New Year's Eve) we barely slept a wink because the party outside our windows carried on 'till dawn - complete with shouting, laughing, brawling and fireworks. As we said, just something to consider....

This guesthouse is a very nice place in Brussels with personal atmosphere and a committed owner. The rooms are huge and equipped with cooking facilities. There's free wlan, a nice breakfast with probably one of the best coffee you may find in Brussels.
There are no negative points to mention, however, the location is surrounded by some red light establishments. The house itself is a bit difficult to find, just watch out for the address. The metro station Yser/IJser is only 3 minutes away and there's a number of restaurants and small shops nearby.
