“French gastronomy in the heart of Brussels”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 15 July 2014

A tiny little place it is this nice restaurant. I have been going to this place for 14 years now and it never let down the reasons why I returned - good to great food with a menu taking you through the corners of great rural French cuisine. Brave plates with one of the only places in Brussels that will proudly serve you a 5A andouillete. Wine choice is there and on offer you have the best of both known and not so known French wines. The lady owner of the place is always there to serve you and guide through the choices and she is running the place with a lot of efficiency yet friendly touch. The sweet end of the meal is the best example of how a desert list should look in every restaurant that understand its importance. Prices are on the upper side but well justified for the food quality/location/ambiance. There is a small terrace on the back for those warm days in Brussels and, should you enjoy being in the crowd, there are few tables on the pedestrian walk in front of the restaurant. One should try the place for a quiet, excellent quality dinner.

“Having a good time in Brussels”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 28 June 2014

I Liked the fact that you could order a drink at an outside Cafe accommodated with a Cannabis cigarette, to be smoked in a legal, relaxed atmosphere...great!

“An Excellent Meal”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 13 May 2014

The restaurant is situated in a small square surrounded by other restaurants. It looked so appealing...The food is classic French and there are many specialities from different regions of France.

The service was excellent and the menu so extensive that it took ten minutes to decide from all the options. I shared a goose rillette with my colleague (which was excellent and served with toast, onion cnfit and cornichon). I followed with a rib eye steak and my colleague had the Basque blood sausage. Both were heavenly.... All washed down with beer and wine. Prices were very reasonable for Brussels.

Overall, would I go back.... Absolutely!!

“Nice "French"" feel,but service "Bruxelloise"”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 22 April 2014

Great decor, with checked tablecloths ,and memorabilia on the walls. But you are not in France. Here you experience service "Bruxelloise" ,at its most unappealing..Service that is unfriendly and unhelpful. Cuisine that thinks it can serve up a large, unappetising salad, with barely a trace of vinaigrette.Meat incorrectly cooked, not according to request.

Wines are well selected. But a "tarte tatin "came without the requested ""flambé à Calvados". Be warned. If not, be assertive !

“It looks wonderful like Irma, "but not so douce" (in taste and price)”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 9 March 2014

The scenery is wonderful indeed! A great variety of old photos and posters, replicas of paintings and old advertisements (like the one of the luxurious Simplon express train) on the walls, together with old toys and "needful" nothings on shelves. All in all a very nice and colorful decor that creates all rosy expectations for a sky high culinary delight. Things are not exactly as joyful as the first optical impression... Though the place is small (internal settings for winter time) the service is rather late. The red wine of the house was nothing much and I decided: let it be sparkling water instead. The first (hors d' oevre) was croquettes with crevettes, that is tiny small Belgian shrimps in a lot of creamy chease croqeutte. The taste was creamy than reminding anything coming out of sea. The meat portion (main dish) was huge but very tough (I could not manage it even with the special meat knife).
The double espresso was the best. This offered food quality was also overpriced -even for business paying levels.
Saint Boniface church area looks very touristic and maybe this is problem of the whole area (medium quality, served in a glorious and glossy packing, at a high price), I am afraid.
Not a place for light dinner cuisine as well, as greasy cooking is a must here..
