“Charming indeed”
Reviewed 31 May 2010

from the moment we were welcomed to this small hotel we felt like we had stepped back to a more gracious period the rooms are just the same as on their web site ,we had one of the large rooms on the first floor it was huge and furnished in period style,we also had tea/and coffee makeing in the room the bathroom was huge and had a whirlpool bath and a great shower, the breakfast room was again charming, but as nice as any hotel is you need great staff, well here you have them everyone was so pleasent and helpfull, the tram stops just around the corner so you have easy acess to the old town and railway station.

Stayed for a long weekend and found the Hancelot the perfect base for sightseeing in Ghent. The room was small and up lots of stairs but very clean, nicely furnished and great value for money. The breakfast is plentiful and great quality. The surroundings are beautiful and the service and atmosphere friendly, helpful but not overbearing. Would stay again and recommend to anyone looking for hotel comfort but B&B friendliness.

Thank you for your kind words and we are pleased that you have enjoyed your stay with us. Indeed you are right that it might be quite some stairs to the Charming rooms on the third floor and these cosy rooms are a bit smaller: 25 m². Next time you might consider reservering our more spacious Charme Deluxe rooms on the second floor (size 30m² ) or our Luxurious Suites on the first floor (45 m²). Hope we may welcome you again!

Think "Casanova", "French Renaissance". You've got the picture. Flowing coats, top hats and bustles wouldn't be amiss in this superbly decorated upmarket B and B. 10/15 minutes walk to centre of Ghent. 10 Euros/day for parking in hotel. Excellent management. Good hot Sauna. Room vast. Quiet garden, spa pool in construction. Super continental breakfast. Good supermarket less than 10 mins away opposite library in Woodrow Wilson Plein.

Negatives - no fridge, but would not go with decor. A couple of bites from mossies.

This beautifully and elegantly restored town house is in a great location with wonderful amenities (gym, sauna, tanning bed, whirlpool tub, refrigerator in room).Cleanliness reigns here. The hosts are gracious and charming. Breakfasts are fresh, healthy, and substantial.
My husband and I stayed in one of the spacious suites on the second floor for 6 days at the end of June.
The daily temperature was reaching 80 F.
Although we were provided with a freestanding air conditioner, there was no place to vent it or pour off the accumulated water. It simply could not cool off the bedroom at night. We had to keep the windows open which brought in mosquitoes devouring us as we tried to sleep.
I would stay at this hotel again, but would definitely choose a cooler time of year

Thank you for your comments and positive words. I did not respond yet on your small remark with the airco, since I wanted to wait till I got some good news with regards to the movable airco. I am glad to let you know, that the movable airconditionings are more practical now to operate. Furthermore we have installed airconditioining in our breakfast lounge and lobby lounge. The Charme Rooms and Charme Deluxe rooms, alle have movable vans now as well. So next time if it is one of those exceptional hot days in Belgium, at least all guest will experience more pleasant temperatures in the rooms. Hope we may welcome you again with us since you were a lovely guest to host.

We loved this hotel. The decor is beautiful; our room was really spacious and airy with a really comfy bed, sitting area and bathroom with power and massage shower, and the lobby, lounge area and dining room are all very elegant. The garden terrace is a lovely place to enjoy a drink. Breakfast is superb, in a beautiful room with high ceilings and chandeliers, and wonderful food - pastries, fruit salads, breads, meats, cheeses, cereals, eggs, juices and hot drinks made freshly for you. The hotel hosts were very welcoming, friendly and attentive, helping us to make the most of our stay. We stored our bikes in the hotel's private garage, along with our car, which is a real bonus in a city centre hotel.
We had great days out cycling to Oudenaarde and Geraardsbergen in the Flemish Ardennes, and along the quiet lanes of the flatter areas towards Deurle. Cycling in Belgium is a joy, with signed routes and designated cycle lanes - ideal for children. We'll definitely be visiting again!

A weekend in Gent, staying at this incredible charming hotel! It is quiet, with luxury spacious rooms and just 5 minutes walking distance from the historic city centre. We could also park our car (you have to reserve it in advance). The staff is really helpful and make you feel at home. When we arrived they served us a glass of wine in the beautiful garden. What a price quality value, we were impressed!!!
