Ghent is a lovely town, but this accommodation did not reflect the advertising photos or description. Garden apartment is actually a dirty basement, lacking most amenities + many light sets broken. No kettle, toaster, one glass to share, chipped mugs, food in oven......the list could go on. Bathroom at end of corridor - after a shower every thing gets soaking wet. Building’s hot water & heating services are in the living area, & noisy. No response from booking company or owner/manager. Every noise from floors above emanates down staircase, not properly sealed off. ‘Garden’ area : dirty, untidy, bbq used as ashtray
Only about 5 minutes walk from the castle, and on a street with so many choices of bars and restaurants, yet not noisy. The private entrance is off the small park, and the furnished terrace even has a barbeque for warm weather and a bit of coverage for showery times. Awesome quality bed linen and towels. Great wet room. We didn't cook, but the kitchen seemed to be reasonable well supplied. The coffee machine is a nescafe dulce gusto - stock up at the supermarket in the city centre if you need several cups to get you going (no kettle, pan could have been used to boil water for tea etc, there's a choice of coffee shops within steps of the door).
The code door lock system instead of a hotel style reception or having to wait for keys worked perfectly.
As first time visitors to the city, a couple of pages of local info (nearest shops for supplies, recommendations etc) wouldn't have gone amiss but there was fast free WiFi to check things out.
