Bed in Ghent is very well situated to see Gent - a very short walk from one of the stations, in a quiet part of the city, but a short walk from the historic centre. Tom is an excellent host - very knowledgeable about the city, lots of tips of places to go and see. We had the top floor, and it was very very good. Clean, big comfy bed, big room, big bathroom, loads of hot water. And the room came with its own record player and selection of records. Tremendous. Excellent breakfast - fresh rolls, cakes from local bakery; excellent cheese, really excellent, from nearby supplier. We would definitely stay here again. As a city, we much preferred Gent to Brugges.

We loved our time in Ghent and a huge reason why is Tom and his B&B. The experience was absolutely perfect. We arrived on bicycles during a heat wave after a very tiring 100 km ride from Breda with all of our things and Tom immediately helped us to refreshments and made sure our bikes were brought in and kept in a secure spot. Our room was absolutely perfect. Huge charming space with a great selection of books and tastefully decorated. We had the windows open and the light glowed off of the flowers growing in planter boxes on either side of each window. A very nice way to unwind after what was the longest (and hottest) ride of our 12 days of cycling around Belgium and The Netherlands. The breakfast was perfect and Tom's advice on restaurants really improved our visit to Ghent. It was great meeting Tom and staying at this B&B. Would not consider staying anywhere else in Ghent on future visits unless this one was already booked.

Bed in Gent is a wonderful, slightly quirky B & B - near historic centre of Ghent but in a quiet residential area. The star of the show is Tom who is an excellent host and very interesting to talk to. The room was spacious and comfortable with a record player and vinyl records to keep you amused, plus a selection of books and radio - a peaceful way to spend the evening without intrusive TV! Breakfast was delicious with plenty of fresh baked goods and homemade jams. Highly recommended.

Great B&B in the heart of Ghent at a very reasonable price. Host is very helpful and the facilities and breakfast were first-class. Ghent is a beautiful city and well worth a visit, and Bed in Gent is the perfect base for your break!

Greeted at the door with a warm and friendly welcome, and I already was making a mental note come back to this B&B again. This is the second time I have stayed at Tom's B&B (see review 23/7/11) and there isn't much more I can really add.

Things to highlight though:
- its handy location; the railway station (just a 5 min walk from Dampoort), it's an easy walk to town, but also Bus no. 3 just 1 min away if you want to save the legs. A bike hire place is also at Dampoort station if you want to transport yourself like a true Belgium.
- healthy breakfast: includes juice, cheeses, bread/pastries, yoghurt, fruit and cereals - and optional extra of egg if you'd like. You are welcome to make yourself a cup of tea/coffee in the kitchen at any time, and also can store the odd item in Tom's fridge if need be.
- good night's sleep: on a comfortable bed with nice firm pillows on a quiet street

Tom definitely makes you feel at home, and is happy to point out activites happening around town that maybe of interest to you.

Last year my only negative comment was that I missed having a shower (only a bath available) but to my surprise and delight, a shower had been newly installed in my bathroom just before my arrival!

Room Tip: Ask for the room on the top floor if you would like to have the option of having a shower.

What a lovely bed and breakfast, tucked away in a quiet, safe and friendly little neighborhood, easy to find by car, very easy to park on the street (50 yards away, 3 euros per day),and only a short stroll accross the bridge to the main centre of old Gent. As all other reviewers have said, Tom could not have been more helpful with dinner suggestions in local neighborhood restaurants ( we acted on 2 of his reccomendations, "Multatuli" and "Het Gooden Hoofd" and were delighted with our meals and the ambience). Our room was up 2 steep flights of stairs ( but Tom carried our bags up, and down on departure). We immediately felt at home. Our room was spacious, comfortable, with a high ceiling, plenty of light from the big window, good size bathroom, and big bed. Tom has 2 rooms available, the other one is on the floor below. In both rooms he has provided a turntable and a range of long playing vinyl records, which was a welcome change from having a TV. We enjoyed coming "home" after a good evening out and listening to music.
Tom served us a tasty breakfast, the usual range of croissants, rolls, pan du chocolat, and offered eggs, cheese, continental meats, fruit and yoghurt.
We stayed 2 nights, which was a decent time to give us a taste of Gent. There is a great art museum/gallery in the Citadel Park, The Museum of fine arts, which has 2 Bosch, 3 Breughels and a Rodin. The Cathedral was also stunning, with a very old Crypt full of good art. Gent is really easy to walk around, but if your legs need a rest, there are trams. If we came to Gent again we would definitely stay here. We thought it was really good value.

Room Tip: In common with much of the Continent, pillow provision is minimal. We did bring 2 of our own pillows...

Wife and I stayed for two nights in July 2012. Tom is a great host, the location is ideal too. We showed up, he took us to our room, and then he gave us a nice 15 minute talk on Ghent. Room was cute, had a craft of water, with little Belgian chocolates ready when we arrived. Our room on the top floor also had a record player with an eclectic collection, a nice touch. Room was also clean, and very nice size. Breakfast was delicious, local baked goods, fruit, cereal, eggs, tea, coffee.

To nitpick I'd mention the 2nd floor bathroom is setup as a tub, not a shower. However, this didn't bother us.

Side note, we stayed during a very lively music festival in July. Also, stop by cafe het gouden hoofd; just a few streets over from Bed in Gent.

We would stay here again.
