“Perfect Stay in Gent”
Reviewed 6 July 2013

'Bed in Gent' is ideally located for travellers who wish to be slightly outside the hustle and bustle of the main town. It is close to the Gent-Dampoort station, located in a quiet residential area which is a short and pretty walk to the historic part of town.

Tom was a wonderful host and took time to show us maps of the town and point out bars, cafes, restaurants and museums (the STAM museum is worth a visit).

I stayed in the first floor room, decorated with neat retro furniture, records, books, finished with fresh linen and lots of light from the large windows. I slept with the widows open as we were going through a mini-heatwave that week, and did not hear a sound from the street all night, it was very peaceful. I felt very comfortable in the room, and enjoyed spending time at the B&B - it felt like much more that just a base for the night.

Breakfast topped it off, it was fantastic - fresh bread from the bakery, homemade jams, pastries, unusual and delicious organic cheeses and a boiled egg, perfect.

I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at 'Bed in Gent' - thank you Tom for being such a great host. I hope to visit again soon.

Stayed three night's at Tom's B&B. First thing, you cannot beat the price/value ratio of this B&B. Lovely room (the second floor) with a spotless bathroom, shiny bathtub, good water pressure. The bedroom itself is furnished with Ikea Malm series, again spotlessThere's also a record player in the room!

The area itself is pretty quiet, and about a ten minute walk towards the city centre. Lovely filling breakfast with sweets and savouries, including good cheese, boiled eggs as well as an apple pastry, not shying away from food expenses.

If you're looking for something fancy fancy, perhaps Bed in Gent is not your cup of tea, but if you're after a friendly, clean, central B&B to come back to after exploring Gent, Bed in Gent is top choice.

But more then just a bed. During our week in Gent. I really enjoyed conversations with Tom who is a musician as well as a kind and attentive landlord. The accomodation is very near to the station - Gent St. Pierre - and also a nice place from which to start a walking around Gent. If we returned to Belgium again we would certainly visit Gent and try to find a room with Tom. That really says it all.

Room Tip: We loved the top room but you must be fit enough to climb stairs. Worth it if you can.

Our host Tom is was the highlight of the trip. We got plenty of tips on what to see and do. Our room was on the second floor, and Tom was helpful carrying our luggage upstairs. The room was large and had a nice size clean bathroom, and the bed was comfortable too. Fresh drinking water was a nice touch. Breakfast was very good also, with cheeses, homemade jam and boiled eggs. We truly enjoyed our 3 day stay.

Stayed in this lovely B&B for 3 nights in April and we are very happy we did so. Tom is a wonderful host, allways interested in his guests. He provided a lot of great tips on museums, restaurants and other attractions. We enjoyed our chats during breakfast very much. The place is very nice. We had the top floor room, wich is huge, very comfortable and spotless clean. No TV, but a great selection of records and free wifi. Location is very convenient, in a beautiful and quiet area, about 10 minutes from city centre and 5 minutes from Dampoort Station.Breakfast was served on ground floor and was delicious - a great selection of organic and local products (cheese with nettle was a good surprise). Easy parking just around the corner. We definitely recommend this place.

All those positive reviews are very true. This is a wonderful place to stay. I will try to add some information to what you already know.

If you have a car, parking is very convenient and reasonably priced. Tom was kind enough to ride with my husband around the block to show him the parking area and how to purchase the parking tickets. There is a code for the front door and Tom made sure it worked for us before he let us go out. This is the kind of consideration that makes this such a great place.

We have recently gone wheat free and Tom went out of his way to meet our needs at breakfast and with his restaurant recommendations. His recommendations are excellent and were well suited to our request for something not too far away and reasonably priced.

Our 1st floor room was very spacious as was the bathroom. I found the pillows a bit hard but not a problem. The bedside lighting, so often lacking, was outstanding. I could see what I was reading without lighting the entire room. WiFi worked very well and was easy to access. The stairs are steep but Tom will probably insist on carrying your luggage. Without a suitcase, the stairs are not a problem unless you have real mobility issues.

Bed in Gent is a place we hope to visit again. There is a lot to see and do in this city and this is the perfect home base from which to do it.

Room Tip: We were up one flight of stairs and that was fine. Two might have been a bit uncomfortable but we d...

We stayed in Tom's place in March. It is lovely - mid century furniture, stylish, warm, spotless, delicious breakfast and well located near Damport station. Tom is the perfect host - warm and informative, and loves his city. A fabulous big bath, lots of hot water, thick towels, and a record player. Very relaxing. If you like faceless hotels with all the extras, then this is not the place for you. It is quirky e.g. no TV, narrow unpainted (but in an artful way) stairs. But it had everything we wanted and needed.
