a nice stay, close to the trainstation and perfect for travelers with a car. Tom is a very helpfull men with good taste in music and design. Love the way of getting up, taking a shower with a jazz LP on. An good and full breakfast with an helpfull Tom without putting himself on the foreground. Citycenter is on a walkable distance. The next time i will only stay here again.

You must stay here.
Gent is an amazing small city with a range of attractions but the experience of staying at Tom's place is what makes it a such a memorable experience.
The B&B is easy to find, just a short walk from Gent Dampoort Station and the price (75 euro a night) with a simple but beautiful breakfast (eg. homemade jams) is great value. The room we stayed in (2nd floor) is spacious and lovingly appointed (a great library, including many English books and a selection of vinyl records) -very airy and bright. The steps are very narrow and steep but Tom will carry your bags up (and down) for you - just hold on and take it slow as you are descending.
Tom's tips for what to do are impeccable. Het Gouden Hoofd, a local restaurant 5 minutes walk away (make sure you book), is a must visit and if you are there on Sunday don't miss the Community bar and cafe (with live music) and the ruins of the Abbey which are literally just around the corner.

We had such an enjoyable stay at Tom’s B&B, “Bed in Gent” that we left there thinking that money wasn’t enough. We were made to feel very welcome and at home in his house. Tom is genuinely interested in his guests and has a true love for the local community and the city of Gent. We had the top floor room which was spacious, well lit and unbelievably clean. The breakfast in the morning was substantial – we enjoyed fresh breads and pastries, cheeses, homemade jams, cereals and the perfect boiled eggs! We also found the location very convenient…not too long a walk into the historic centre of Gent but also a short walk from Gent Dampoort station. All-in-all, a wonderful stay and we were sad to leave.

Room Tip: I recommend the top floor room

My husband and I stayed at Bed in Gent for 3 nights in Nov 2012.

Bed in Gent is in an ideal location, close to the Gent-Dampoort station. It's in a quiet residential area and not in the center of town, but that's only a short walk away. You always felt safe walking back, and it's a beautiful stroll by the water at night.

Tom is the perfect host, from the first contact that we had with him via email to when we met him in person. He had great recommendations, from restaurants to sights to visit, to his favourite coffee shop. He spent time with us every morning to find out what we had planned and offered input to make the most of our time there.

Love love love the way his home is decorated. Danish mid-century furniture, modern-retro feel. We stayed on the 2nd floor bedroom, spacious, bright and comfortable. No lift, and 2 narrow steep flight of stairs, but Tom was insistent on helping us carry up our bags. No TV, but a record player with an eclectic mix of records (Tom's a musician) to suit anyone's taste. There's wifi if you have your own laptop.

Breakfast was filling and plentiful. There was juice, coffee and tea, yogurt, fruits, cereals, selection of fresh cheeses, savory and sweet pastries and breads, homemade jams, and a boiled egg. Great way to start the day.

We thoroughly enjoyed Gent. Tom and his lovely home was one of the highlights of our trip. We hope we'll be able to come back to Gent and stay with Tom again in the future!

Clean, comfortable rooms. Tom is an attentive host, he even carried our heavy bags up & down 2 steep flights of beautiful but very narrow stairs. Perfect location on a quiet street - a stone's throw away from the Dampoort station. Breakfast was a bit spartan - have had better at other European B&B's. Can't fault Tom for trying hard but more variety needed ( cold meats, fried eggs, bread selection . Located right next to Ghent's oldest building, Highly recommended for the location, comfort and Tom who happens to be one of Ghent's hidden gems.

'Bed in Gent' is ideally located for travellers who wish to be slightly outside the hustle and bustle of the main town. It is close to the Gent-Dampoort station, located in a quiet residential area which is a short and pretty walk to the historic part of town.

Tom was a wonderful host and took time to show us maps of the town and point out bars, cafes, restaurants and museums (the STAM museum is worth a visit).

I stayed in the first floor room, decorated with neat retro furniture, records, books, finished with fresh linen and lots of light from the large windows. I slept with the widows open as we were going through a mini-heatwave that week, and did not hear a sound from the street all night, it was very peaceful. I felt very comfortable in the room, and enjoyed spending time at the B&B - it felt like much more that just a base for the night.

Breakfast topped it off, it was fantastic - fresh bread from the bakery, homemade jams, pastries, unusual and delicious organic cheeses and a boiled egg, perfect.

I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at 'Bed in Gent' - thank you Tom for being such a great host. I hope to visit again soon.

Stayed three night's at Tom's B&B. First thing, you cannot beat the price/value ratio of this B&B. Lovely room (the second floor) with a spotless bathroom, shiny bathtub, good water pressure. The bedroom itself is furnished with Ikea Malm series, again spotlessThere's also a record player in the room!

The area itself is pretty quiet, and about a ten minute walk towards the city centre. Lovely filling breakfast with sweets and savouries, including good cheese, boiled eggs as well as an apple pastry, not shying away from food expenses.

If you're looking for something fancy fancy, perhaps Bed in Gent is not your cup of tea, but if you're after a friendly, clean, central B&B to come back to after exploring Gent, Bed in Gent is top choice.
