We gladly stumbled over Den Enghel on our recent trip to Gent.
The location on the river is beautiful and it yet maintains a down-to-earth and non-touristic atmosphere. The food we had was excellent, the prices were fair, the waitress truly kind
and quick. We felt at home away from home and gladly will return when in Gent again.
This is really a multi-faceted place, because inside it's a typical historical Belgian-style brasserie / pub over three levels, restaurant on grouznd, bar upstairs and a downstars a cellar bar venue with concerts and parties. The music and overall vibe was alternative/indie/rock-minded, a little "hipstery" (even though Gent doesn't like that category) and especially: surprisingly unpretentious, while not lacking performance at being a decent and proper restaurant with fresh ingredients and heartfelt service: that's a balancing act at which many other places shatter, Den Enghel thrives under that special mix.
This is how I like my places best. We felt really welcome and absolutely in place here and will urge to return on our next trip to Gent.
"Den Enghel", who just recently moved to this location, will soon be one of the trendiest spots in Gent, I am certain.
Suggested for all ages, but especially for younger people.
