“Multi-faceted place with good food, easy-going atmosphere and a wonderful terrace”

We gladly stumbled over Den Enghel on our recent trip to Gent.
The location on the river is beautiful and it yet maintains a down-to-earth and non-touristic atmosphere. The food we had was excellent, the prices were fair, the waitress truly kind
and quick. We felt at home away from home and gladly will return when in Gent again.

This is really a multi-faceted place, because inside it's a typical historical Belgian-style brasserie / pub over three levels, restaurant on grouznd, bar upstairs and a downstars a cellar bar venue with concerts and parties. The music and overall vibe was alternative/indie/rock-minded, a little "hipstery" (even though Gent doesn't like that category) and especially: surprisingly unpretentious, while not lacking performance at being a decent and proper restaurant with fresh ingredients and heartfelt service: that's a balancing act at which many other places shatter, Den Enghel thrives under that special mix.

This is how I like my places best. We felt really welcome and absolutely in place here and will urge to return on our next trip to Gent.
"Den Enghel", who just recently moved to this location, will soon be one of the trendiest spots in Gent, I am certain.

Suggested for all ages, but especially for younger people.

Your restaurant choices along the river front of the old port are many and varied; but one thing they tend to have in common is pricey selections. I don't mind expensive restaurants, but expensive restaurants in purely tourist locations tend to not look for repeat business, so high prices come with mediocre food and service.

At Den Enghel, we had mediocre food; but with it came a delightful young server, she was polite, helpful, and hard-working. With that came the great location all the restaurants share, while you eat bland food, you watch the tour boats glide past and the tourists walk past, against a backdrop of the beautiful old buildings of Old Port Gent.

And at Den Enghel, you get all that at half the price of some of the competing restaurants. Such a deal!!!

Amazing view on the Graslei! Food is good, but not exceptional. Good service. Note: I don't think the picture matches this place. That's probably another place with the same name. This place look nicer. Overall, a good choice amongst many good choices on the famous Graslei in Ghent.

Just went there tonight for dinner. Have been there many times in the past 3 months. Food was always delicious. To night got a lovely surprise, to find the restaurant inside had been refurbished. and looked amazing. It had a womans touch to it as it had a lovely flower, and a candle lit on each table. All it needs now is a nice lick of paint and that should finish it of nicely Lovely girl served it. She even put a match to the fire as it was a chilly evening. Will definitely go back on a regular basis. Worth a visit. Jane and Tom.

Labour day, sunny noon... Terrace wasn't fully filled... But we had to wait ages for our food... Which wasn't tasty: badly baked fries and ribs which had some flavour thanks to the 'sauce' and some vegetables such as not very cispy salad, some slice of tomato and cucimbre without any vinaigrette or so...
Waited again a whole while to get our bill.
This was our first and last visit to this place.
