If you're booking a room in this hotel, ask for the number of the room: if it's the number 25, change the hotel!
Reading the reviews, I think that me and my friend have been really unlucky with this hotel.
Our room was very very small and the shower was separate than the wc!! Yes, we had the shower IN the bedroom!
The room was so small that we couldn't open our luggages on the floor.
Plus, it was very very hot, and there wasn't air condionated in the room. We had a really poor sleep and the day after we got up very tired.
The breakfast is not included and there's not the elevator.
75 euro for this adventure.
Definetely not raccomended.

My husband had booked us a room for 2 nights (as my birthday present) for the weekend of the Ghent Jazz Festival. Unfortunately our 5 year old daughter became very ill and we had to cancel the room, this was done 30 hours before check-in opens. We explained the upsetting situation with our child, but Hotel Onderbergen still charged us the full 2 nights accommodation. We were extremely disappointed with this as Eurotunnel were excellent and did not charge us anything to amend our booking. Whilst I appreciate each hotel has a booking cancellation policy, it is normally within 24 hours of cancellation that a full charge is incurred. We will be going to Ghent in the near future, as we were very much looking forward to having a child free weekend, but we now have to book and pay for an alternate hotel.

We are a bit impulsive and called this place only three hours in advance to book a room. The only room available was actually for single use, so rather small, but the price was equally small so we were happy to take it. On arrival we found that its size was perfectly adequate, but also that it was spotlessly clean and well decorated. The bed was rather soft and the bed linen was nice and full, not te cheap stuff i sometimes find in smaller hotels. The blackout-blind worked well. On the phone they had warned us that the window opened to the pub courtyard, so we might experience some noise until 1 am. This was not quite true; there were people talking and laughing at least till 2:30. We had no ambition to sleep early so it didn't bother us, but others might want to take a room on the other side of the hotel. What have i left out? staff were friendly, wifi worked well, we skipped breakfast. All in all just one real drawback: mosquitos. We had to go on a hunt before we could sleep, a mosquito net around the bed would have been lovely! I will definitely stay here again.

Room Tip: Just call reception, they are very nice and helpful.

I hate to review this hotel so badly (but), it really was a difficult place to stay. Definitely easy to get to from the train station, simple ride on Tram #1. Short walk. I got to my room about 3 pm after sightseeing in Ghent all morning and it was at least 36 degrees outside (102 F) and humid. I was on the top floor in Room 8 that had the sun shining on one side of the roof all morning and on the other side of the roof all afternoon - not properly dark until 10.30 pm. Probably hotter indoors than out. Now the place doesn't have air conditioning, and I was almost dead by the time I heaved my bag up 40+ stairs, but there was very little air flow in the room at all - heat and light poured in the windows even with the blinds drawn -essentially a little clay pidgeon oven. Which would have been almost manageable if management had ever stayed there and thought to provide fans in all rooms - they don't cost a fortune anymore and a 10 euro fan would have made all the difference. There seems to have been no thought put into hot weather - for instance a big snuggly quilt on the bed, but no sheet - so I had to take the quilt cover off and sleep under that. No phone in the room so would have had to hike down and back to ask for something that just should have been there. And to add insult to injury, when it was finally cooling down and the breeze came through about midnight, along with it came squadrons of mosquitoes that bit me at least 10 times on the face and shoulders. So a crap stay all round - which as I say, is a shame, because the place is nicely decorated and MaryAllen on reception was an absolute joy to speak to and probably the highlight of the stay. If you go to Ghent in Winter - definitely stay here... shut your windows, turn the heater on and snuggle under your quilt - otherwise look for a proper, possibly modern hotel that has thought about contingencies like hot weather - Saying "We don't need airconditioning in summer" over and over again which is what I've heard a lot in Europe over the last 5 weeks is drivel - and saying it over and over again simply won't make it true.

Room Tip: Choose a good room? Sure... try another hotel.

We stayed here for two nights in July with our 11-year old son and he was thrilled to find that our triple room included a bunk bed! The room was very nice with one of the largest bathrooms I have encountered in Europe! Staff was great and the little pub/restaurant on the lower level was fun. It was super easy to walk to all the sights as well. As with most Belgian hotels, it didn't have air conditioning which is not necessary most of the time, but we happened to be there during the few days out of the year that it would really have been helpful. Still, we enjoyed our stay and thought it was a good value.

This hotel has a great location with just a short stroll into Central Ghent. The family room was very spacious with high ceilings. We didn't try out the restaurant attached to the hotel or the free drink offered on check-in at the restaurant as it was quite dark and didn't think it was a great area for our 2.5 year old.
