We recently spend 3 nights in the Novotel, on a first visit to Ghent. The best thing about the hotel is the location. It is in the centre of Ghent, a few minutes walk from everything you need.
It is the standard you would expect from a Novotel, a good chain, and does exactly what it says on the tin.
There is an adequate breakfast, though the only morning I had it I felt quite unwell for a couple of hours afterwards.
This is a base, a clean, functional, well equipt hotel. As a chain, it doesnt have character etc, but you know that when you book. The location for me was the winner, and I would stay again.

2 nights, 2 rooms in the hotel: 2 adults and 3 children.
Very nice hotel; friendly staff; room bigger than expected for a Novotel; located in the historical centre.
To find the hotel: follow the parking sign P9 when entering the town and then turn right at the corner of the Sofitel. If no parking in the hotel, go to the 'Vrijdagmarkt' (10 min walk)
Choose a room with a garden view (f.e. room 333) if you don't want the noise from the street. Prices are the best if booking at the hotel website (120 euro - breakfast 17 euro). Nice breakfast but do sit somewhere at the entrance because of the noisy crowd near the buffet. Nice and quiet bar for an evening drink.
Would recommend it!

Make sure you map this location out before you go. We had very little to go on and barely found it. Rooms were clean. Bed was harder than I like. Great location across from major city venues. Friendly desk help. Spoke good English -- seemed to want to avoid French for whatever reason.

With the Novotel one usually expects a no-frills, run-of-the-mill McHotel with very little character whatsoever, aimed at the business traveller. This is definitely an exception !

Situated in the heart of old Ghent, only 10 minutes walk from all the sites and restaurants, its a modern building with modern rooms but somehow it has a certain charm. Its tucked away in a quiet corner and has a [very small] swimming pool with terrace outside by the entrance, a real treat in summer I'm sure. During our stay it was a leaf-clogged pond, but no less charming for that. Friendly reception with the feel of a small hotel rather than a big chain, and downstairs is an atmospheric restaurant in a medieval vault. The bar on the ground floor had a big selection of Belgian speciality beers, a good place to start the night out.

Rooms were the usual Novotel fare, perhaps large than normal, all modern with no big frill features. A minor complaint was the failure to refill the minibar.

Parking was also provided underneath the hotel, though space was at a premium and maneuvering around the carpark required a lot of repeated reversing and crawling, never mind trying to fit into the narrow slots.

All in all a good choice for Gent and a big plus for the Novotel chain, although it certainly isn't the cheapest place to stay during the week at least.

This stay prompted me to ask myself "What do I look for in a hotel?" Yes, it is a chain, so the bedrooms are just as you would expect - clean and functional. The maid did a great job and the shower was lovely - a separate loo is good when travelling with my 14 year old!

The location is right in the centre and just off a little alley with some interesting shops. We came by train and it is an easy tram (number 1) ride from the station to the Kornmarkt and the hotel - don't wait for a taxi!! The hotel also has parking which could be useful. My son even tried the outdoor unheated pool - it is set in a lovely courtyard and would be good in the summer if the sun shone. The bar staff were very pleasant, as was the reception. Best was when I was very poorly one night at 1 in the morning, and they responded straight away and were very concerned. One of the things I look for in a hotel is the quality of its staff - this hotel was very very good. The only negative is sometimes they were hardto find in the bar, but a nod to reception, and someone appeared!

Breakfast seems to have bothered others here. I look for a clean table readily available, a choice, and hot food. All of these were there. The bread was fine, and I am sure the coffee was NOT instant in our case, but maybe I am wrong. The scrambled egg and bacon was very good, and my son liked the sausags. Cheese was also good and yoghurts. Self service can be a bit of a scrum but it depends when you get there. However, there was always a space somewhere for us three.

Our bedroom was at the back and quiet. Those at the front will have better views, and there are also some that overlook the courtyard if that is important to you.

I would stay again anyway!

We spent one night at this hotel (May 27th) and really enjoyed it. It's a nice modern hotel which was very clean and comfortable. It's located in the heart of the historic center of Ghent, and just a short walk to any of the major attractions.
The staff were very friendly and the breakfast was good. They have parking underneath the hotel, but be careful if you have a big vehicle - it's kind of tight.
We would defintely recommend this hotel!
