Cant fault the hotel, very central, easy to walk everywhere. Driving was very difficult to find with the one way roads and pedestrian walkways. When we finally found the hotel, with the help of the local police, the hotel car park was a nightmare to get into the parking spaces, all very small, had trouble getting out of the car once parked! And they charged for the parking :-(

We have stayed at this hotel a number of times and it is a better than average Novotel with an interesting layout around a central pool area right in the center of this city.

Typical international breakfast - try and get an inclusive rate as the price of breakfast as an extra is extortionate!

The car park is under the hotel - book in advance if you can as parking in Gent is nightmare!!

Gent is a great city and this hotel is well placed for exploring it.

Room Tip: Choose a room that overlooks the centre of the hotel - the pool area.

Hotel booked at discount rate; if not price would have been excessive.
Hotel is located in the heart of the city next to the Sint-Niklaaskerk.
The employee at the desk did not manage to speak French fluently (in a hotel of the French group ACCOR).
There is a swimming pool in open air but in Winter this pool is obviously closed.
The breakfast offers much and from good quality in buffet style: continental and English breakfast.

Room Tip: We had a room on 3rd floor. In the corridor at the 3rd (and 4th) floor you have a nice view on the M...

Stayed with friends at the Novotel Ghent Centrum. The hotel is situated in the middle of this small but beautiful city, there are some magnificent buildings to see especially the Cathedral. The hotel was clean the rooms very spacious with clean towels provided every day. Not many coat hangers but if you ask for more they will be provided. The buffet breakfast was plentiful with various items hot and cold to suit all tastes. The meals and the service in the restaurant was of a very high standard. The staff were really friendly and helpful. The New Year Gala Dinner could not be faulted wth adequate food and drink provided. This was our second visit to Belgium but our first visit to Ghent and we will most certainly return and have no hesitation in recommending this hotel.

Stayed at the Novotel Gent Centrum for New Year and would definitely return. I cannot comment on the parking as we travelled by coach, but the location of the hotel is great, right in the middle of the old part of the city and within easy walking distance of all the main tourist sights. There is a good choice of eateries and bars on the doorstep and it's worth checking out the hotel's own menu of the day which gave us 2 courses, a glass of wine and a coffee for 16 euros. The buffet breakfast had a good choice of both hot and cold items, and they were quick to replenish dishes as needed.

We had a room on the top (4th) floor overlooking the courtyard and swimming pool with a lovely view of the Castle over the rooftops. People in rooms facing the road said they were a bit noisy but we had no such problems. It was nice to have a separate toilet and bathroom but there was very little enclosed storage for personal items and the bedside tables were tiny, just big enough for an alarm clock and a pair of glasses! The wardrobe was a rail in the passage between the room door and the bedroom area and everyone was moaning about the lack of hangers provided so if possible take some of your own. Please note the hotel swimming pool is open air so is not open in the winter months although they do have small gym.
What made the holiday for us was the staff. Everyone from the reception desk to the cleaners were so friendly and helpful, and spoke such good English.

We thought the drinks at the hotel bar were quite expensive but there are so many other places to go nearby that this was not a real issue.

Gent itself is a beautiful town and we preferred it to Bruges as there seemed to be so much more to see. The Tourist Office, opposite the castle, had a good range of English language guide books and self guided walks and the boat trips along the canals to the see the sights from the water are well worth doing.

Room Tip: Ask for rooms 401 or 402 to get quiet room with good views

The Novotel in Ghent has become our favourite halfway house when driving from Germany to the UK. The location within Ghent's historic centre is perfect, service is friendly and efficient, and the rooms are excellent value for money. Most importantly for us, kids are welcome (and go free). My only quibble is parking - the hotel's garage is dingy, and there are not enough spaces, so I had to resort to nearby underground car parks twice.
