Excellent hotel, efficient friendly staff. Had a superior room which was well worth the extra money.Well designed and finished to a high standard,no complaints at all.Underground car park cost about 15 euro a day which was worth paying for the peace of mind and security. Easy walk into the centre of Ghent. Would definetly stay here again.

The hotel is conveniently located next to the Belfry (one of the sights right in the centre), so it can hardly be missed. Apart from that it is in the heart of the historical centre with restaurants, pubs and the river nearby. The room was nice and spacey, with lots of mirrors. The desk was large and handy to have. Also the room had a small safe in the wardrobe. Accidentally, I could even see the castle. The only downside was some lime scale stains in the shower. They just didn't suit this generally nice place. And quite a goody: the bathroom had a speaker for the TV/Radio. Apart from that I appreciated the Air conditioning on the hot days.

We stayed for 2 nights in a deluxe room on the 3rd floor. Room faced an inner courtyard and was very quiet. We had a king sized bed and we all had great sleep on the very comfortable beds. Bathroom was modern, clean and well equipped with good fittings. Only thing was the shower was not powerful as I would like and I seemed to have difficulty controlling the temperature. The fold down bed for our son took 2 phone calls for it to arrive which was a bit annoying. Reception and public areas were clean and modern and all staff were polite.

Our room rate did not include breakfast but we did try on the first day. It was very busy but for EUR 15 each, we didn't feel it was value for money so we ate out the next day.

Free wi-fi in public area was very slow. There is an underground parking which is very handy as most of the historic centre is for pedestrians.

Gent is a beautiful city and combined with the great weather we had whilst we were there, it is definitely worth a weekend visit. If you like Amsterdam, Brugges, you will love Gent.

Overall, a very nice hotel and would come back again.

This hotel is right in the centre of Ghent, near all the tourist attractions, restaurants and shops. It is in an old building, with modern decor inside. The staff on reception were very helpful, and our room and bathroom were large and very clean, with plenty of storage space. There was no noise as we overlooked the inner courtyard.

Breakfast was excellent with a large choice of food and drink in a spacious breakfast room. The bar and lobby areas were pleasant as well. There is a wi-fi area in the lobby, or, if you don't have a laptop, you can use the PC in the business area - you can get a sign-in code from reception.

However, the bad news (nothing to do with the hotel) is that the centre of Ghent is a building site at the moment as they are re-doing the tramlines. The no 1 tram is on diversion, so currently goes nowhere near the hotel and we had to walk 15 minutes or so from a tram stop with our luggage through the building works. It's quite difficult to walk around the centre, and quite dangerous in parts, as there's not too many "Health and Safety" precautions in evidence. Some of the shops have their stock covered in dust. Nearly all the historic buildings are being restored so are covered with scaffolding and/or have restricted access.

In particular, St Bavo's cathedral is charging 4 euros to see the Mystic Lamb painting, and I would advise anyone going to the cathedral not to bother. The painting is several feet from the viewing area behind a glass screen, and in between the viewing area and the screen there are workmen with their tools and ladders partly obscuring the view of the painting.

So I would advise postponing a visit to Ghent until the tramlines are sorted out (whenever that might be), but would recommend the Belfort as an excellent place to stay once Ghent no longer resembles a giant building site.

We have just spent two nights at the NF Belfort. The big plus point for this hotel is its location which is just minutes walk from most of the attractions in central Ghent. The hotel itself is bright and modern - rooms are very stylised and a bit minimalistic - functional rather than luxurious, but they are clean and the beds are comfortable. Staff at reception were very pleasant and dealt with our two niggles helpfully and efficiently and also booked us a taxi on our last day which arrived bang on time. Our first niggle was that when we checked in we were given a key to a room which hadn't been changed and cleaned after the previous guest had left. The second niggle was that the next room that we were given seemed fine - but it did have a connecting door to the next room which proved quite a problem when our noisy neighbour came back in the early hours, rattled the connecting door handle several times (one two many Belgian beers perhaps and couldn't locate his bathroom?) and apparently went through all the ring tones on his mobile at some volume. We explained the difficulty with the noise at reception the next morning and were immediately provided with the key to another room with no connecting door so had a much more comfortable night's sleep on our second night. Breakfast wasn't included in our deal and we didn't much fancy the 21 euro price on Friday morning so headed instead for the lovely Das Brooderie about 5 minutes walk away where you can get a good breakfast in a charming bustling little cafe for half the price of the hotel. It was so good we went there on our second morning too. The bar area in the hotel seemed pleasant enough although we only used it for a cup of coffee while waiting for the taxi when we were leaving. We liked the free wi fi in the lobby too which was very helpful for a desperate husband whose football team is facing relegation to check the score (you need to ask for login details at reception). All in all while I wouldn't rave about this hotel there really isn't anything wrong with it and it is perfectly fine for a short city break if you really just want a good quality, comfortable, well located base. For those reasons I have rated it very good and would recommend it.

Recently stayed for two nights in superior room.Room was huge, very modern and well equipped but had to ask for slippers! Hotel is very centrally located within easy walking distance of all attractions.Staff were helpful and friendly. Check in and check out was very speedy.Breakfast enjoyable, something for everyone.

The only problem was trying to find the hotel,it was very difficult due in part to all the work doing on in the streets in the 'historic centre'.We had to ask for help from four different people before we found it. If you have a car make use of the hotel car park,it's worth the money.

We would definitely stay again. We liked Ghent a lot although restaurants were pretty expensive.
