“good standard, no nonsense Ibis”
Reviewed 5 December 2011

I've stayed in a few Ibis' now and pretty much know what to expect; basic but clean, no-nonsense accommodation. The bathroom, as usual for this chain, is very small but the bedroom roomy enough with adequate space for our weekend stay. Only slight quibble about the room was that it got rather warm at night, there was air-con but we didn't touch it, however it appeared to kick in by itself in the early hours!
Not exactly service with a smile at reception but we soon learned this seems to be more down to the nature of people in Ghent, seeming fairly dour at first until you crack the surface! :-)

The location was great. Given the choice between this and the Ibis near the cathedral, we went for this, slightly cheaper option (fairly pricey for an Ibis but hotels appear to be on the expensive side here) and were perfectly happy with the location of this hotel. Its on the main #1 tram route into town, with a stop just outside the door. The hotel itself is a short stroll into the historic centre, via the main shopping street.

We didn't opt for breakfast at 14 Euro (gulp!), intending to go to a nearby cafe. Discovered that cafe's don't open too early around here but got lucky in finding a bakery on the shopping street, so stocked up with fresh bread and pastries for the rest of our stay.

The bar seemed pricey for an Ibis, however was pretty much on a par with the area and was a pleasant place to finish off our first evening with a late night coffee.

Room Tip: didn't appear to be a problem with any room, all of the same standard and in a fairly quiet area...

My reason for choosing Ibis Gent Centrum Opera hotel is it's location. Nicely between the Citadel Park and cycling 6 day track one way and the historic Town Centre the other. Plus a direct tram to the Rail Station is immediately outside the door.
I have stayed at this hotel on this particular weekend for several years and have never had a complaint.
I anticipate staying again when the Gent six day is put on next year.

I have never been to Gent before but I will be back. I had a great weekend with my 11 year old son visiting the Gent Six Day Cycling. The hotel was well located within walking distance of both the railway station and the Velodrome.
My room was small but very clean. The staff were great, providing information and maps. It was helpful having access to the hotel carpark.
Breakfast was fine but slightly overpriced. The Internet that was free in the Reception Area was good for our needs.

Room Tip: I was in a room beside the lift but was not disturbed.

The front door was situated at a tram stop so we took full advantage of the No 1 tram that went between the town centre and the train station. Good breakfast, buzzy bar at night. Wifi free in the lobby so don't get caught out paying 4 euros for it in your room. Rooms a bit tight but everything was clean and TV worked. Just as for a code for the lobby whenever. Could be a bit on the warm side. Would recommend

We spent 4 nights at the Gent IBIS and we were very impressed with the cleanliness and the service provided. The room was very good, only complaint is that the bathroom was a bit small but it was fully functional so that was good. Breakfast was on the expensive side but very plentiful and good quality. Would definitely stay there again and would thoroughly recommend it.

I stayed 2 nights on business. My room was very spacious and clean. Great location. The no1 tram from the train station stops outside. It's only a few minutes walk into the beautiful old centre. The other Ibis is outside the cathedral and charges significantly more for the location.

The buffet breakfast was good, but the breakfast area was very busy. Unfortunately, there was a lot of corridor noise one night and my sleep was disturbed. My only other complaint is that on arrival at the hotel, it took ages to check in.

Our room was much larger than reviews had lead us to expect, spotlessly clean and comfortable. Situated on the top floor toward the back of the building there was no problem with noise but sound control was not good and noise might be problem elsewhere in the building. The bathroom was a bit cramped which cost a star.

Room Tip: Go for the top floor back
