“Great location but nothing else to recommend it”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 4 March 2013

This hotel is fine as long as you do not want to spend any time in it! The decor is as tasteless as the breakfast and the service begrudging at best. We arrived at 23:45 and, on asking about food and a drink, we were told that we would have to go to a 24hr restaurant down the road for food but we could have a beer if we paid up front. When I finally reached my uninspiring room, I was surprised to find a big advert for the 24/7 food service that we had been refused.....this summed up my stay.

We stayed here as a group of 15. It was a reasonable price, Excellent location, a couple of minutes from the centre and had a nice bar.
Breakfast was continental with a reasonable selection of items.
Rooms were basic but comfortable.
Would stay there again

I've only stayed at this hotel for one night and I had a great night's rest in the very comfortable bed. The bathroom is actually more roomy than it looks at first sight.
Most importantly the room was nice and clean and even had a great working airconditioning installation.
Overall a fine hotel for a very decent price to stay in this wonderful Belgian city.

The expensive self service [down to boiling your own egg if you get tired of waiting for other hot food like omelette] breakfast buffet basically sums up this bland, but overpriced establishment. On the second day, I went out to a nearby better value café rather that pay the exorbitant 14 Euros to stand in a queue and/or hang around for hot supplies to appear…

The hotel is fleshly brightly [re]decorated, including the whitewashed corridor walls, plus all walls in the bedroom. Unfortunately, even with these white walls, the inadequate room lighting [single fixed curtain rail height 60 W? incandescent bulb] doesn’t help you if you have to work at the room desk/ table….

The room had a large comfortable double bed, but it was located in one corner against two walls – so fine for one but somewhat awkward for two to use… The silent electric wall heater had been replaced by a more modern[?] air-con unit at ceiling height – unfortunately, even when switched of at night, the heat transfer fluid carried on gurgling through it all the time… There was even a collapsible case rest, but there was nowhere to stand it with your luggage without blocking an access route in the quite crowded room…

Similarly the tiny bathroom was clean and well equipped but the tapering outer wall [a hang over from the former Ibis/Urbis style] meat you couldn’t comfortably sit on the throne without your knees knocking on the wall – even if the toilet seat had been put on properly i.e. square to the bowl in the first place…

It was reasonably conveniently located about half way between the city centre and main SNCB rail station by a tram stop so easy to find.

Room Tip: A room at the back away from the tram tracks may be quieter.

Visited 02/13/12 to 02/15/12. Stayed here on advise of other fellow trippers. Was not disappointed. Knew to expect small but very clean rooms, yet no smaller than many higher priced rooms I have stayed in when in Europe. Bed extremely comfortable. Hair dryer supplied so I did not have to drag one from U.S. The staff went beyond their duty. I had been in contact with them by e-mail for a few weeks in regards to various questions. The replies were very prompt and extremely helpful. They even suggested a moderately priced restaurant and booked it for me for Valentine's Day.
We did not eat at the hotel. The breakfast at 14 Euros was a bit steep for me and it was so easy to find a coffee shop nearby for a delicious pastry and cappucino. We did have a cocktail in the bar area which was nice.
As mentioned the hotel is centrally located to the old town. An easy walk. We arrived via train from Brussels. Short walk to Tram #1 at the station and we were delivered to the very front of the hotel. So tram travel was very convenient. If staying a few days buy the CityCardGhent at 20 Euros for 2 days and 25 for 3. It gets you into a number of museums, a canal boat ride and free tram and bus travel. The museum about the city of Ghent is fabulous.
I will definitely stay here again when in Ghent. I can't say enough about the excellant quality of the staff.

Room Tip: Ask for a quiet room at the back of the hotel. I am a light sleeper and did not hear any street noi...

I stayed in the hotel for 2 nights. It's location is very good - only a short walk to the cathedral, castle, restaurants and bars. The rooms are on the small side and the bathroom is particularly compact but ok. The underground car park has reasonable space and manovering is not as difficult as in some other hotels in the area.

First of all I need to say that this was my first time in Gent. Before I choose Ibis reviewed trip advisor’s comments. I knew more or less what to expect. Stayed for 3 nights.

Lets start from the pros. The hotel is literally in the city center of Gent. You can walk if you want to many places. Just outside the hotel there is also o tram stop. No need to walk anywhere. Just step out of the hotel and you have arrived in the tram stop. All staff was very helpful and I must say that I really appreciated the kindness and hospitality they have offered me during my stay. Really made me feel like home. Room was clean and tidy. Free wi – fi available also. Breakfast buffet (extra charge) with an adequate variety of food and everything I tasted was very good.

Now with the cons. Average to small size of room. Narrow path from door to the small desk (passing the bed) and from there to small bathroom. If I was oversized I think I would have a problem inside the bathroom. Do not look for any extra in the room or bathroom. Only extra was the hairdryer. If you are used to free brushes, slippers, etc you will be disappointed. In my opinion the rooms are not adequate sound proof or I should say less sound proof than other hotels visited. I could hear alleyway sounds, next room sounds etc. Price not on the low level. There were other hotels with same rating with less money but NOT in the location I was looking like Ibis. Before I forget. If you are having a car with you, parking is impossible near the hotel.

Would I go back there? Not sure what to say. But I would definitely consider it again.

Hope I helped.
