“safe decision but no excitement”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 3 February 2009

I stromgly recommend to make a quick stop on this super ncie city. Stayomg in the IBIS is always a safe decision. No surprises (nor positive nor negative). It is not worth to pay extra for the IBIS which is placed near the cathedral since the city is so small.

I stayed in room 126 of the Ibis Gent Centrum Opera Hotel for 1 night in early December 2008 on a city break with a friend. We arrived in Gent by train at Gent-Sint-Pieters railway station around midday. The hotel is only a 15-20 minute walk from the railway station, or a short tram ride on tram route 1. On arrival at the hotel reception we were able to check-in straight away.
The twin room (126) and bathroom were modern in appearance, smart and very clean. The room had a television but sadly there were no tea/coffee making facilities.

The hotel location is excellent; the historic city and the main tourists’ sites are within easy walking distance of the hotel. For sites further a field there is a tram stop directly outside the hotel served by tram route 1, which provides easy connection with all parts of the city.

Breakfast was served on the ground floor of the hotel and there was an ample choice of continental breakfast items to eat such as pastries, meats, yoghurts, bread, juice and cereals, plus cooked items such as sausages and scrambled egg. There was also a good selection of drinks including coffee, fruit juices and a variety of flavoured teas.

Overall, a great value hotel, which is ideally located to explore the city. I would definitely stay at this hotel again if I visit Gent again and as such, have no problems in highly recommending it.

A short tram ride from St Pieters railway station ( no1 tram) gets you to this hotel. It is located about 10 mins walk from the historic centre of Ghent. Rooms are tastefully decorated and are on the small side with a minute bathroom. Storage for clothes is minimal and there are no tea / coffee facilities.
The breakfast is excellent with a wide choice available , however a little pricey at 13 Euro. However it is a great place for a budget week-end break and I will be returning sometime soon.

There are several restaurants within a 2 minute walk.

I and my wife found the hotel satisfactory for a short stay only, it has no atmosphere whatsover. The rooms are exceedingly small with inadequate luggage space for anything more than a short stay. The bathroom is for midgets only! The roomlacks tea & coffee making facilities. The best point of this hotel is the breakfasts which are excellent. The lounge lacks atmosphere and does not encourage dalliance.
Staff are very good and friendly generally and hotel is situated in a very convenient position in the city both for sights and transport.

  • Liked — The breakfasts
  • Disliked — The size of the room and bathroom and no tea or coffee making facilties in the room

We spent 1 night at the Ibis Centrum in Gent. When arriving in Gent we did not have a hotel booked and its not easy to find any hotels whilst driving round the city. We called ahead to check availability and from that point, until we left the reception staff were very helpful and polite.

The room was fairly small but very light and clean. The hotel is in a great location (about 2 mins walk to the historic area – a pretty area along the canal with many restaurants, bars and shops) and has an underground car park; it is also very reasonably priced compared to the other hotels in town.

I would defiantly recommend this hotel for anyone staying in Gent but do try to take a map with you as there were some occasions found ourselves driving along behind trams, unsure if we were allowed to be there.

Stayed here with my Mum. Great location in Ghent, near the centre. Room adequate, clean, bar downstairs. Breakfast full buffet. Don't hesitate to stay here. Only downside we had no view from room.

I would stay here again. Nicely located 10 minutes pleasant walk from the central square. Quiet area, close to a pretty canal and a couple of resteraunts on the doorstep. Rooms were small-ish but had everything that was needed. Good hot showers even though the hotel was full (but no shower gels/shampoo so bring your own). Room was clean and comfortable. Walls perhaps a bit thin, decoration was good.

Breakfast was plentiful. A bit of a queue if you all turn up at the same time (and there was a full coach load in my group), but the food was good enough.

The staff were all very friendly and helpful.

This isn't a 5 star hotel, but for a few days break it is absolutely fine. I wasn't looking forward to the Ibis brand, but this was a very positive experience, and worth coming back to.
