“Great location”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 29 May 2014

Ghent is a great place to enjoy a city break. The hotel is ideally situated close to the centre of town to make the most of what Ghent has to offer. Plus points, very comfortable beds, a very good shower, clean rooms and a well-maintained clean hotel. The staff were polite and helpful. The variety available for breakfast is quite good. The bedrooms like all Ibis hotels are small. Our group had 24 rooms and there was not one single complaint about the hotel from anyone.

While the hotel itself is a basic business style hotel with plain rooms. The location (especially for the price) can't be beat. We stayed in 520 and it had a view of the Cathedral and main square to the Belfry. The Breakfast was basic European style and much better value and quality can be had in the local cafes.

Room Tip: See if you can get a 19 or 20 as they have the best views.

Gent is one of the favourite cities in Belgium, not only for me, but for many, so often difficult to find a free room to stay. We had no toher choice, sp booked Ibis. The location is perfect, right in the city center, but the rest is below the expected value. The service is poor, the staff is quite unfreindly (we stayed for 4 nights, so met some of them), parking is hardly possible, and the rooms are too small.

The hotel is central located next to the Cathedral and walking distance to the restaurants and cafés. The room is good and clean, but the bathroom is a little bit small.
The breakfast was very good! Perfect hotel for a city trip!

I have stayed one night for business reason, I know that Ibis is a basic economical hotel in general but services should not be less than basic. Price for Ibis, I think was slightly higher for a town like Gent.
During checking in, lady at the reception had some humiliating attitude that disturbed me when we ask hotel payment detail. However in the morning there was another lady fully in contrary and very interested with our taxi needs etc. five stars in attitude.
The room size was ok but there were not even one small bottle of water to drink. bathroom size was standard, ok. Main problem was that water outlet was not working properly, water in the shower was not draining and I had my shower inside accumulating water even at lowest shower flow.
I had one of my worst showers in this hotel and cut off one point for this. Second cut is for receptionist, considering too basic breakfast is expected for Ibis. One remark for service staff at the breakfast, she needs to be congratulated for smiling and helping attitude with full effort (I think she was from far east)

Room Tip: Check bathroom and basic as soon as entering the room, immediately ask a change if something is not...

After a fairly frought drive through the centre of Gent where the sat nav was determined to take us up streets which were closed for roadworks we arrived at the hotel. Access to the car park was by way of an entry phone on the wall but when the door opened we were unable to drive in as there was a cycle event in town and the way in was blocked by people unloading the vehicle in front of us and we had to wait in the street where we caused an obstruction. Perhaps that should have sounded alarm bells but we persevered and eventually drove down a very steep ramp into an extremely tiny car park at the bottom. There were very few spaces left and it was only with great difficulty that we eventually managed to get into a space with our admittedly fairly large car. I would suggest that unless you are feeling brave it would be better to park in one of the public car parks nearby. Oh and by the way exiting the car park is also something of an adventure!
The hotel once you are inside is typical of the Ibis chain. A fairly small but well equipped bedroom which was very clean and perfectly adequate for a short stay with a modern bathroom of good size. There is a bar and the breakfast room is quite large and comfortable. Breakfast was very good with a selection of hot and cold food available as well as a variety of hot and cold drinks to please everyone.
The hotel is very central, just across the street from the Cathedral square and ideally located for exploring the city with it's interesting sights, restaurants and bars. If returning to Gent I would happily stay in this hotel again but would find somewhere else to park the car!

I stayed here with a group and the hotel was picked for me. Based on the prices, I was expecting something amazing, and in that I was decidedly disappointed. The hotel is very friendly and I found the staff lovely, but the rooms are tiny (there is place for a bed and a wardrobe and that is just about it) and the breakfast was fine but nothing special. It is by no means a bad hotel and if I stay here again, I will be very happy, but for myself I would pick something with more character and more space.

I had no issue with noise, but did not find the beds comfortable. The pillows were very thick and the mattrass topper was so soft that it felt like there was no support for my back.

Room Tip: Maybe I just slept very deeply, but my room faced the side and I had no noise problems. Worth a try.
