We visited the Groot Vleeshuis for a lunch snack after reading about it on a travel page. The decor is unique with the hams hanging from the roof, but sadly that is all it has going for it. Food was a disappointing especially as you'd expect top quality ham from such a place. Service was extremely slow even though there were only three occupied tables.

My rcommendation would be to go in and snap a few photos of the interior and if you want to eat grab a beer and a mixed ham starter plate and then find somewhere better for a proper meal.

very good "Menu van de dag". meat/ham plate and chocolate milk are also good. no much choice though.

We decided to eat here when we were in Ghent this past week. Service was incredibly slow, food very average and quite expensive. A meal of 2 sandwiches, 2 salads and water came to around 50 euros! We had to ask 3 times for our water to be brought over, it eventually came when we were nearly done with our lunch.
Not the best place I've eaten, not the worst either but it's nothing special.

Stopped here for a quick snack, based on recommendations and a desire to try local food. Were disappointed. Service was non existent, though they were busy with a ? bus tour in the back. Finally ordered at the counter. Ordered a meat and cheese platter to share, which came with no bread or accompaniments. There were only two types of cheese, neither impressive. Half the meats were good, but it was really the lack of accompaniments and poor service that did it. This concept has so much potential, too bad it is not lived up to.
The cherry beer, tried here, was outstanding, ( for usual wine drinkers), but you can get it elsewhere, and should.

Really liked the ham legs hanging, the building is really old and nice. We also tried jenevers and small pices of 3 different hams and chesses (10 euro aprox).
