Reviewed 19 May 2014

This hotel is undergoing refurbishment, they do not tell you this on booking.com !
so allowing for the fact that they are having a makeover
1) towels - i can see daylight though mine ( is this fact a make over problem - I don't think so )
2) piped music quite loud in the restaurant , entrance and all public places - i don't want my music choices chosen for me thanks
3 ) food - restaurant prices 23 euros for a main course = oh please even the chef came out to see why the restaurant was nearly empty, stayed in holiday inn Englos night before. So much better in the restaurant , nice fresh omelet and restricted menu that someone could do reasonably well , this hotel needs a major kick up the backside , if you are refurbishing and guests are staying then everything else should be as good as you can make it within the parameters of Holiday Inns = this frankly is not . I rest my case , hopefully it will improve but I would give it 12 months .

Room Tip: I suggest you ask for a room at the back , this is a hotel off the motorway convenient and quiet...

Dear sir, madam

Thank you for taking the time to inform us about your experience with the Holiday Inn Express Gent. We are indeed refreshing our bar and restaurant. However, at this moment we are building a spacious conservatory outside the restaurant. There is no construction work going on whatsoever in the building.
As from June 1st we will start inside the building. At that time we will move the restaurant and bar to the Great Room area, so while we are working towards a great new dining experience, our guests will still be able to enjoy a tasty meal or their favorite drink. This information will appear on all booking sites for guests between June 1st and July 21st.

With regards to your main course, 23 eur would be the price for a nice breast of guinea fowl, or a generous plate of Flemish Fish Stew. However, why not try our 4-course dinner buffet? You can eat as much as you like for just 22 eur.
If you prefer an omelette, a baguette or a quick salad, you'll certainly find something tasty on our Bar menu. As always, kids eat free in our restaurant.

I hope you will give us a try again this summer when everything is fresh and new..

Sincerely yours
Laurens Roels, Hotel Manager

Hotel is located close to the circular highways around Ghent, but over 10 minutes drive from the City Center. Easily accessible by ar, but complicated by local transport.
The hotel is decent. The rooms are large, clean and the bathroom is well equipped. Wireless internet is fast. There is background noise from traffic. The breakfast was mediocre, a bit disappointing in fact. The staff is friendly and professional.
The hotel is suitable for business purposes, seminars etc. Not for people visiting the Old and very picturesque city of Ghent.

Great hotel. Near to motorway so we used it as a stop on the way back to Calais. Staff were great. Both of our children (3 and 1yrs old) were tired and had big 'melt downs' in the restaurant. Staff (Sandra) were so lovely and helpful. Our 3 yr old loved the sofabed in our room. Very family friendly hotel.

A basic hotel on the outskirts of Ghent .Staff very helpful and friendly .Well positioned for forward journey .Super buffet breakfast .Satallite tv had some English chanels.Don't go here expecting views or quaintness just good value easy stay.
Recommend the restuarant which gave 10% discount for guests and children ate free.We had the buffet at 22.5 euros each there was lots of nice food to choose from!
Although it is out of town(30 mins walk) it is worth walking at least once as the arcetecture of the houses are interesting. Also a 20 min walk gets you to the tram and with a day ticket,5 euros,This is a great way to see the city which is lovely and better than Brugess

Room Tip: Try and get a high floor .we were on the second and stared at an ugly wall.

Stayed here on a Saturday night in late January. The hotel is very close to the motorway, so is very good choice to use as a stopover when traveling.

The hotel has a very large car park spanning the front and side of the hotel, which has plenty of parking spaces. I wasn't charged for parking, which I'm not sure if was a one-off, or whether they no longer charge.

The reception area was welcoming and the staff were friendly and pleasant when I checked in.

The bedroom was large and clean, with the thermostat set an appropriate setting seeing as it was cold and stormy weather outside!

The bathroom was of usual Holiday Inn Express standard - no bath, just a shower. It was immaculately clean with plenty of towels available.

Breakfast the next morning was busy, but there was an ample amount of tables available to sit at. The standard European breakfast fare was available, which was fresh and replenished regularly.

I didn't get to spend enough time in this medieval city, so I will definitely be back to see the sights and will definitely stay at this hotel again.

Second stay and front desk personnel continue to impress...during last overnight, Laurence(sp?) went out of his way to provide outstanding service. Pull out bed was perfect for the kids. Perfect location to visit sites in Belgium. Breakfast was good, room was clean and comfortable - would definitely stay here again.

nice hotel, comfortable rooms ideal for family with kids bit cut off from center so car rental is necessary but very well located if you want to visit other parts of Belgium very good access to high ways, hotel restaurant expensive but do not try the campanile hotel restaurant next door menu no choice and disappointing. the bar of hotel very unfriendly staff otherwise all hotel staff were nice especially the room attendants extremely helful

Room Tip: you need a car rental but its good for family, value for money and comfort
