Hotel is nice, it is v confusing finding the entrance more signposts would be helpful. Room was lovely and comfortable. Shame about the depressing view from room, its not v pretty looking onto ikea. Staff were friendly. Upon check in we were told if we wanted breakfast in morning we had to pay then rather than in the morning. As we had spent the day travelling we were afraid we would sleep in and miss it, so we decided to go without, it would have been far better if we could have decided in the morning.

After a last minute change of plan Eurotunnel rather than Eurostar got the vote & the Holiday Inn won over the Novotel Centrum - all the reviews said parking and driving into Gent centre was not a good idea so staying on the outskirts was the compromise.

Location : Gent ideally placed being only 90 minutes from the french side of the Chunnel, motorway all the way & hotel close to the links needed for the stay.

Ease of Access : It is slightly disconcerting to drive past the hotel, following signs for Expo and disappearing behind a tv studio (?). Dodging the trams it is back round the "Loop", the hotel disappearing behind Ikea (miss a lane change and you have to go back round again) only to reappear following the original road separated only by concrete dividers. Possibly the longest route to a hotel I have come across.

Welcome : Efficient & helpful - directions to the event we were attending were made available on advising purpose of visit. The javelins in the luggage were however a bit of a giveaway.

Food : Typical business fare on the a la carte menu - perfectly acceptable, if a bit limited. Also slightly more pricey when compared to UK. Snack menu much better value.

Service : Again efficient - special mention has to go the the waitress who served us on the first night. She showed real concern for my wife who was feeling under the weather after the drive.

Room : Again perfectly acceptable, cleaner than many chain hotels we have stayed in. The mattress was not as firm as I would have liked & high duvet tog rating meant the next good night's sleep for me would not happen until we returned to the UK, the better half however, doubtlessly like many other visitors, found things perfectly acceptable.

Location : Once you can get over the circuitous route into ( and out of) the hotel is this a good place to stay? If you are visiting the Expo perfectly acceptable, if you want to shop at Ikea the location is equally good. However for the city not so good - the tram station is within 5 minutes walk and if you are prepared to stay on for 90 minutes or so you will eventually reach the centre after visiting much of the west and northern parts of Gent, the tram has its own one way system which means inward bound the route goes nowhere near the centre - hardly simple as you have to get off & face either a wait for a bus or a 15 minute walk. The trip back is however much quicker as the one-way system is in your favour. Trams stop around 11-11.30 in the evening - be aware the taxi ride is a long (& expensive - over 20 euro) one!

Ghent : A very busy but very relaxed city. Some of the architecture is very beautiful & a 90 minute walk round the city centre finished off with a pint of beer watching the world go by is a very pleasant way of passing an afternoon.

One word of caution Gent is probably one of the most expensive cities I have ever been to - perhaps this because I haven't been to very many expensive places - however as a frequent business visitor to London it felt more expensive even than the West End or the City.

One mustn't however end on a negative note, whilst not as beautiful as Bruges, Gent probably has more going on if canals and architecture are not the be all and end all of your trip to Flanders. Stay in Gent & take a day trip to Bruges

Dear Guest
Many thanks for your constructive feedback on our hotel. With reference to the accessibility: when you follow the black signs with 'hotel' and 'Holiday Inn' close to the hotel, you could have found us immediately. As this was not clear for you, we have taken this up again with the City of Ghent to get additional signs to our hotel to make it easier. With reference to your trip by tram, iIt normally takes approx. 20 minutes to get you right to the city centre of Ghent. Perhaps due to roadworks in the city, the route got changed. On behalf of the entire team, I look forward to the opportunity of welcoming you back to our hotel.
Yours faithfully

The only bad thing of this hotel is the location unless you are staying in the city for the Expo.
Leaving this appart, the hotel itself is great. Friendly and helpful receptionist, spacious room, modern flat TV, clean toilette. Also the restaurant is large and light in a very nice ambience.

We stayed at this hotel for 5 days late in December. The best part of the experience was interacting with the helpful and friendly staff. The room was very clean (though we found some cracked and broken tiles in our bathroom) and our request for an extra cot bed for the children was honored. The breakfast spread was very very nice (the cold and hot food selection was extensive and rivaled that of many 5 star hotels we have been at). We also appreciated the free wifi access in the lounge area. We were vegetarians and could not find much selection on the dinner menu, so we ate out. The location is not ideal to go to the city centre, but as it is mainly for the Expo crowd, we understand. Be aware though that there is a hefty 8.5 euros per day parking fee, but this is advertised clearly. There is a 2.5 euros per day per person city tax that was extra...we felt it should have been made clear and payment taken up front at the time of booking on the site. Overall, a very pleasant stay at a nice hotel. I will recommend it.

I have stayed here on numerous occasions.
Rooms/Bathroom in need of updating.Towels very old and threadbare, also they never smell very fresh.
The location is very confusing. You have to drive around a huge circuit to arrive back at the front door. Signposting to hotel is very bad, you will struggle to find your way in!
Parking charge is a complete ripoff as you are effectively in the middle of nowhere.

The buffet breakfast is good and you have free wired internet in the rooms.

We have already been in touch with our laundry company and they have done an investigation of their washing equipment. We have a towel replacement programme in place. Our apologies, should you have received a towel which already needed to have been replaced. I stayed for 3 nights at this hotel for a business event. I must say that the service was very nice, this is a good hotel with very good food selection for breakfast and lunch (dinner options were a bit pricey and the selection is limited but the quality of the food was okay). The room had everything I needed, it was very clean and the staff was friendly. The location of the hotel is quite outside of the city. All in all, one of the best Holiday Inns I stayed, the hotel is suitable for business (and to a less extent for leisure). I liked the WiFi, too!
