“Friendly, good services and great value”
Reviewed 28 July 2013

Stayed 2 nights in July 2013 during Gentenfest. Hotel is very well located but was still peaceful. We had stayed for a couple of days in 2010 and returned. Staff are very friendly and breakfast is generous and good..

I would happily recommend it.

Room Tip: Our room, 69, was spacious, clean and crucially had aircon as the heat reached over 30C.

Stayed here for 3 night at end of June for my wife's 30th. On arrival reception very helpful with parking and we managed to get a spot in the courtyard at rear of hotel. Reception and hotel is very grand but not quite matched by the rooms. We had room 35 on top floor which was at the front of the building, it had a great view of ghent, cattle of the counts and canal.

Toilet and bathroom were split into 2 different rooms, not a problem but there was a slight sewer smell from the drains but walking round ghent I think is a general issue. I did request some champagne in the room when we arrived as it was a special occasion but this was not acknowledged, so a little disappointing. Overall rooms Ok, very comfy bed, thin walls, maybe some updating required - like tea and coffee in the room.

There is a tourist book available at reception which I can't promote enough, this was our bible and provided the routes and activities we did for the whole trip.

Breakfast was excellent and the usual euro buffet style.
Another nice tough was free umbrellas when you it was raining.

Overall a good stay, would recommend and would stay again.

I am delighted with location at which the hotel is situated. The fortress is on ten steps and the city center is in two minutes walk. The rooms are large and luxurious. Free wifi. The only downside is the expensive breakfast.

really enjoyed our break in Ghent, the location of the Gravensteen hotel is really central. We stayed in room 81 from the 6th of June to the 9th and found the hotel clean and comfortable. We had breakfast every day in the hotel and found it really varied. I would recommend the hotel to people thinking of visiting Ghent. The only issue I have is on check out the guy at the reception charged us Belgium tourist tax at 2.5 euro per person per night. I questioned this request and now see in trip advisor reviews that suggest this is an illegal tax? I have now written to Belgium tourist centre for further information and will direct my enquiries to Coop travel the company I booked the break with.

Room Tip: room 81 was clean and spacious

We stayed three nights and really enjoyed the hotel. Our room was on the fourth floor and overlooked the castle. Nice, clean and roomy. Friendly and attentive staff. Breakfast was included and there was a good choice and everything was fresh. We will definitely go back.

Room Tip: Room 435 is very spacious.

We selected this hotel on the basis of its great location in the centre of Ghent. The small but stately bedroom was comfortable and our only gripe was that the bathroom walls stopped well short of the ceiling! The hotel was peaceful and staff friendly and helpful.

Room Tip: The hotel has rooms in 2 separate buildings; the rear building is closer to the breakfast room.
