We live in a foodie city and love little places that are chef owned. J.e.F reminded us of our favorite restaurant at home. It was just perfect. The interior is rather plain, but it works. The food is the star of the show, after all. The menu was wonderful and the food was absolutely incredible, local, organic, seasonal, delicious. You can tell that Jason and Famke have a passion for feeding and nourishing people and that they really care about you having a good experience. They even printed English menus for us. We liked it so much that we made reservations for two nights later and they gave us the best seat in the house and special commemorative menus to take home. We absolutely loved this place - it would be reason enough to return to Ghent!

We were at J.e.f. last night. We had to call weeks in advance to be sure of our seats so it built quite an image for itself. Me and my wife enjoyed dinner. We did not take a starter but instead 2 goestjes (Gentse Kop & Kippenleverpastei) and both where fine en were nice with the champagne we took. On the menu they mention 'sharing is caring' so we put everything in the middle of the table. Also our main courses: onglet and chicken. All plates are easy to share because of the beautiful but at the same time simple composition on the plate with simple ingredients like beetroot, chickenfillet,... We asked for some recommendations on wine (Chateau Chapeau) and desserts (blackberries/yoghurt and chocolate plum) and all these were very good. I think the hostess was the chefs wife. You can see she's as passionate as the chef. The male host on the other hand was less welcoming. Very short descriptions (he offered us the menu's simply in our hands while we saw the hostess somewhat later explaining everything at the table next to ours). I think this restaurant is good value for innovative cuisine. Just some work on consistent service level of the entire crew.

We went to JEF for lunch and it was AMAZING!
We had a 3-course menu with wine and water which cost us about 70EURO.
A real bargain!

The quality of ingredients was outstanding, presentation incredible and service impeccable.
Loved it and wish we had such places in London...

Jason Blanckaert succeeds in creating excellent, fresh and original dishes with simple (local and low cost) ingredients. Lunch is only 25 euro and on the scale value for money this is absolutely top in Ghent. the menu is set although you have a choice between 2 options per course (starter, main and dessert). Don't expect complexity and high end ingredients because he keeps it simple whilst going for a very tasty approach.

He keeps amazing me too with his desserts; time after time they excel in simplicity and taste with nice games on textures (a bit à la mode but for 25 € ...)

the aperitifs (champagne and a sort of cremant that tastes a bit like beer...) are not good but the wine list is OK.

At night the formula is à la carte and for one or another reason that is less exciting. But good though.
