We had a great stay at the boatel. The hotel romms were very nice, with a really confortable bed. There is something spectacular about sleeping so close to the water!!!
It´s very close to the center of town, and is a nice walk to it. The captain was really nice to us, and he makes a good good breakfast for you everymorning!

The Boatel is a 2 star hotel just off from the main square (5 min walk).

From a 2 star hotel we would expect it to be clean, secure and reasonably priced.

We found it all of these things. In addition it is central, quiet, the owner / manager was extremely helpful and completely unobtrusive and the breakfast was really good. It was also "quirky" and different to the normal bog standard 2 star you might find.

We would not hesitate to stay again it. I

The food in the mini-bar was expired, and when we said this to the "Captain", he replyed it was "only expired by a week".

The rooms were not cleaned properly, the sheets were not renewed, the breakfast was very mediocre, and the shower was broke.

Horrible hotel!

If you want the experience, but none of the usual hassles, of staying on a boat, this is the right place. Rooms are spacious, with huge, comfortable beds and private baths with full plumbing. Warm, beautiful lighting, nice staff, great breakfast.
Only downside is the toilets take FOREVER to cycle, and both the toilet and the shower make a lot of noise. But considering it's a boat, the facilities are very nice. Also the internet access was only available in certain rooms (not ours) and in the breakfast room. Location was okay -- not right in the center of things, but a short walk (10 min) into the heart of town. But overall it was a fun place to stay, definitely would recommend it.

We stayed in the deluxe triple, which was a delight. The decor was fresh and inviting, with some wonderful antiques. The cabin was really large with a king bed and a single. As it was at the back of the boat, there were windows on three sides. There was free wireless internet access, which was very useful. The friendly captain and his mother served a lovely breakfast in the splendid breakfast room. It was a unique experience, and one we would gladly repeat.

I've stayed at the Boatel several times & only didn't book in on my 2005 trip to Gent because it was full. It is a wonderful place to stay. The "Captain" is welcoming and helpful. The breakfasts are lovingly prepared. The rooms, both standard & luxury (shower in one, bath in the other) are huge and have excellent facilities. And at how many other hotels can you look out of your porthole (yes really) and see a duck swim past? Oh & there is a small deck where you can picnic in fine weather. A short walk away from the city centre. Highly recommended.
