“We wont be back.”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 5 September 2011

I should have trusted the reviews I read on this site.
The staff couldn't have been more helpful, but that's where the good part ends. They are given nothing helpful to work with.
The hotel building is badly designed and built. Although this is a non-smoking hotel, I had to suffer the cigarette smoke from neighboring rooms, as it was coming in through the bathroom ventilators. Also, the walls are so thin that you can hear most of the bodily functions of your neighbors.
What was described as 'Round steak' on the menu, and as 'Rump steak' by the waitress, was inedible, I'm guessing that it was actually a very cheap cut of beef, probably topside, which should only be served after long, slow cooking, never as a steak. The chef, to his credit, recognized the problem and replaced the meal with something else.
The hotel is in an industrial area, which introduces a couple of issues. The factory next door operates all night, but really gets going at about 6 am. As this is a relatively cheap hotel for the area, many of the guests are workers at the surrounding industry, and some start work at 6 am, creating the predictable wake-up call.
Had we only paid the price of a Formula motel or similar we wouldn't be so disappointed, but this wasn't that cheap.
Do yourself a favor, spend few extra euros and stay in town.

Room Tip: Decline a room at the back of the building, as these face a factory that works all night.

The location of this hotel is ok, its right near an industrial estate which seemed to smell a little in the morning. The rooms were very basic, on par with Travelodge. A little bit pricey for what you get I think. The beds are comfortable and the rooms were all clean so no real complaints. Oh and the light switch for the bathroom seemed very hard to find!

We ate in the restaurant which served very good food and we were all very pleased. The waiters were all very friendly and chatty. The breakfast was ok, usual continental affair.

We stayed at this hotel on an overnight stop enroute to Austria.

The rooms are very basic, although they are clean with en-suite facilities.

There is free onsite parking and it is really close to the main roads so is a good one night stop.

there is a restaurant and bar on site.

Not sure if we would stay here again.

This was a perfectly adequate hotel, nothing to complain of in the rooms, wi-fi service OK ( a point in its favour, as this service is often not as good as claimed), but it is not well-situated for touring Ghent. It is good for coming off the motorway, however, and not having to fight your way through traffic to get to your accommodation. We arrived on a rainy evening after a day of driving, and once we booked in had no desire to go out again, so decided to eat at the on-site restaurant. It managed to be a disappointment, even for people who were content to take what they could get with little trouble. You could tell that nearly everything we ordered was either frozen or tinned; for the quality of the food, the prices were out of line. It really detracted from the quality of our stay.

Room Tip: avoid the restaurant

We find out that hotel in which we are going to be accomodated it is not so close to city centre. You need approximately 20-25 minutes with public transportation to city centre but on the other hand hotel is nice and price is good.
breakfast is OK! Good beer. Personal is not motivated to work or to communicate.

We needed a stopover on the way back to the UK and thought we'd give this a try, instead of an Etap or Kyriad in Dunkerque. Rooms are motel style as someone else has mentioned with the reception and restaurant/bar in an adjacent building (only a stones throw). Rooms are not huge but adequate, our room had a second door upon entering it which certainly made it warm enough, we did crank the heater up to the max for a couple hours after we arrived and then down again over night. I think they must have put this tiny vestibule thingy in cos otherwise the rooms would be cold with the external door not sealing very well.
Walls are pretty thin so earplugs are recommended.
The guy who checked us in was top eye candy I'm told by the wife and he has a nice bum. Food was good in the restaurant, if a little expensive for what seemed to be a Motel catering for single night travellers, (not used campanile before so this may well be the standard setup).
Had a couple of Duvel's in the bar, which is just a few seats really. Had no problems with service but there was only us and a family in the restaurant that night.
Parking is behind a barrier which i think was free but they do sting you for the Tourist Tax, quite annoying really but I knew about it so no matter.
The hotel is a couple minutes from the Motorway so easy access.

Although the business name is "Hotel Campanile" it is a motel and that is significant in the winter season as there are no hotel corridors to provide insulation.

I would have given it a higher score if the weather was better because the room was clean, if sparse. The bathroom was also clean and had basic toiletries. There was also one working power outlet for a computer, albeit no WiFi service available in room 42. Unfortunately, the weather was cold (30°F/-1°C) and so was the room. Although there was a small wall heater, I was still cold when it was set at "max" and I sat next to it. If I'd had some sticky tape I'd have wrapped it around the hairdryer in the bathroom, so I could use it as a low-powered air heater.

Although I've only spent the one night at this motel, I would say that the pricing would be fair and the value delivered reasonable as long as the ambient temperature of the city is a good dozen degrees above freezing. Otherwise, bring extra blankets and wear a nightcap.
