The barge is moored not far from the historic centre of Ghent, perhaps a fifteen minute walk away but is really peaceful; nothing but the occasional bird landing on the water or cyclists peddling past on the dedicated cycle path. The barge has been done up really nicely and there are two rooms for rent, ours was really a small suite. First there was a lovely small living-room with a tv and breakfast bar with views of the river, then a cosy bedroom with a huge round bed and tucked off that a slim but very smart bathroom with an excellent shower. Outside there is a large deck area for lounging or having breakfast.
Breakfast each day was massive, loads of fresh bread and croissants with ham and cheese and yoghurt.. We were looked after really well; Carl apologised for not being able to get fresh orange juice one day but it was a holiday and the shops were going to open late. Instead he came up with a carton.
Its not cheap but then I get the impression that Ghent is not a cheep town. Still it was good value for money.
