Owner description: STAM is the Ghent city museum. It presents the story of the city of Ghent. A permanent circuit leads visitors along a chronological trail of objects and multimedia which trace the development and growth of Ghent. Temporary exhibitions explore the concept of 'urbanity' from different angles. STAM's real showpiece, its raison d'être, is the city itself. A visit to the city museum is not complete without a visit to Ghent.

An interesting view on the city Gent in the old days and how it became the city it is now. The first room is an awesome map of the current lay-out of the city

Usually city museums are rather boring, especially to outsiders. The one in Ghent is not. It's already worth just to visit the museum for the buildings itself. Mostly housed in an old Abbey, build and changed over the centuries, with some very modern new buildings wonderfully integrated, actually already tell you the story of Ghent. The exhibition itself is wonderfully curated, interactive at times and original. It's easy to spend several hours. For me it is the best city museum I have seen so far

Interesting for both local people and tourists. Not a boring museum with the regular stuff, but interactive and varied. The areal photograph of the city as it is today, printed and lighted on the floor of one of the rooms, is really fun (we walked around finding our house, our work/school, buildings we know, ...). The entrance fee is quite low.

There wasn't anything in the museum that was too memorable, but there were several of the exhibits that were very interesting and gives the visitor a good idea of the history of Ghent. I really enjoyed how the rooms take you through the history chronologically and shows the evolution of the city as it stands today.

One of the best permanent exhibitions on a city I've ever seen. They are really good at the digital stuff, and the entire places is very well designed. The english information could have been better and more logical however.
