“Really Nice Place to Stay”
Reviewed 10 March 2014

We stayed in Hostel Uppelink for one night in a private room for 2. The staff were super friendly! I wish I could remember the guy at the front desk's name because he was beyond helpful. He had the BEST recommendations for food and things to do - he knew the city extremely well. They have free wifi and breakfast. The room was clean, no frills, and comfortable. The common bathroom was very large and clean and if you need a towel you can rent one for I think 1.25 (euros). Downstairs was a very comfortable common room and a well stocked and cheap selection of Belgian beers. The building itself was old and lovely and located right across the street from a gorgeous church and just off an old cobblestone bridge. It's also located right on the edge of the historic district so you are in super easy walking distance to everything you want to see. Walking there from the train station took about 30 minutes.

The hostel is located in a very beatutiful historical building. Amazing views of the river and the old town. Wide and clean rooms with lockers (you will need your own lock). Toilets and showers are very clean and new. Staff is very friendly and helpful. Eco-buffet for breakfast is included in the price.

Absolutely one of the best places to stay! Staff were amazing, incredibly helpful and willing to accommodate any request. My partner and I had a terrible experience in another hostel and luckily stumbled upon Hostel Uppelink. It also has one of the best locations, beautiful views, large comfortable rooms, excellent bathroom facilities, is very secure and clean. Generally just gives some lovely vibes. Will recommend to everyone and would stay here again for sure.

Came for two nights, stayed for a week. Ghent is a calming, beautiful place to explore, and Hostel Uppelink remains the best hostel I've ever stayed in. Lots of space, amazing staff, and a great feel. The main floor has a large social area where you can relax and have a beer without a party-crazy atmosphere. There is no on-site kitchen, but there are plenty of nearby places on the Use-It map (free and awesome!) to find all price ranges and varieties of food. Service from the staff goes above and beyond - I was able to save 60 euros on a last minute car rental for a day trip to Ieper and Vimy. If it was possible I'd give 6 stars. Thanks guys!

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a window on the canal for a nice view!

I cannot recommend this place more highly. Super cute rooms, very spacious and comfortable. Clean bathrooms, and a lovely breakfast. Best of all, the staff were wonderful and so nice, and really took the time to make suggestions. I had such a good time here and met lots of fun travelers. And as if that wasn't enough, it was very reasonably priced! My favorite hostel so far.

One of the best hostels I've stayed in, cheap accommodation, clean rooms, wifi, friendly helpful staff and nice breakfast. the hostel itself looks onto lovely views of Ghent and is close to all the major attractions with tram links to other parts of the city and St.Pieters station nearby.
The staff were able to let us check in early and use one of the empty rooms before ours was ready after arriving rain soaked and tired following a pretty rough night!
Will definitely stay here again when I return to Ghent and would recommend it to anyone looking for a nice cheap place to stay when exploring this lovely classical city.

The hostel is located in the very centre of the city and the view from our room was amazing. From the view, it seemed we were sleeping in a 4 stars hotel!
The service is kind and friendly, the rooms are well furnished, spacious (something not very common in a hostel) and clean.
Wi-fi is good throughout the building.
The Fair-trade breakfast is included and you can enjoy it in the lounge whit the view of the canal.
No matter how trustful is your guide, take a map of the city from the hostel counter, it's full of great tips to enjoy every single moment in Ghent.
The lockers are unfortunately too small for an average backpack so you will have to leave it under your bed and lock away only the most important things.

Try it out, you won't be disappointed.
