A truly fantastic hotel! Staff were very helpful, room was incredibly large for the price we were paying, and all of the features were modern and plush. The bathroom was updated and gorgeous, with a walk-in shower and detached toilet to accommodate our larger number of guests. This hotel is unbelievably nice for the price-- we were not expecting anything so nice due to the low amount we were paying. Instead, we found ourselves in a good location, walking distance from the town center and near a number of beautiful parks. Some reviewers have said they needed to take the bus or tram, and that might have been the case for us, but we fancied a leisurely stroll to see the town, and it certainly did not disappoint.

Stopped here for 2 nights whilst visiting the local music festival. Easy to find - just a couple of miles from the main dual carriageway & a short taxi drive or 45 min walk into the centre. Rooms are spacious with mini bar and safe. Slightly dated but OK. Some have air con so best to ask if it's hot weather. Pool and sauna are completely private and you book by the hour with decent showers and changing facilities. Breakfast is typically continental but a little pricey at 12 euros. Lovely free coffee in reception area with fast wifi throughout. What makes this better than average is the staff and customer service we received. Would I stay here again - definitely yes!

Room Tip: Ask for a room with air con

Friendly, comfortable, easy to find, near a tram stop. All excellent; would love to have stayed longer. Good base to explore Ghent, about 20 minutes on the tram, 10 minutes drive. Nice, small Thai restaurant nearby (see separate review).

This hotel was perfectly fine - room was spacious - had parking & free wifi. Everyone was very nice & helpful. It's a bit far from the center of town - had to take a bus there & back. The price was affordable. Everything was clean. Overall, it was a very good hotel - just a bit out of the way.

We stayed here for just one night on our way to England. We boked the night before.
It was not a nice experience………just felt uncomfortable!!!!
It was worn down ann not clean.
We had ants and a lot of not nice things in our room……..
It was to late to find another hotel, so we held in there, but left very early in the morning and went to town for breakfast…………
An experience we want to forget…..

Hello Vibe,

We are very sorry to read you felt uncomfortable in your room.
We noticed you tried to move one off the single beds and realized that there was dust under it.
You will surely recall these beds are very heavy and that is why the room maids can't really move them.
From now we will make sure that also this spot will be taken care of daily.
I remember you decided to cancel your reservation in our private pool and sauna. That was unfortunate because it could have made your opinion about your one night stay in our hotel a little bit better.

Kind regards

Gerald

This is a charming hotel within 20-30 minutes walking distance from the city centre old quarter... Our room ( 4 ) was huge and perfect for the two of us and our 2 teenage kids. The room offered great comfort, lovely shower/toilet room and very spacious feel. The owner is a top guy , he helped us find a great route to the old city rather than cab/bus I would recommend this walk through the park and next to the museums etc etc... This is not your typical hotel and you need to bear in mind that this will not give you perfection but it will give you the perfect experience if you want to plumb into some real culture of the city , ask the owner about the history of the building , great story..... all in all I enjoyed this so much, I will return for sure,,, we have stayed in chain hotels in Gent before and this is a much better experience.... oh and free secure ( and I mean proper secure ) parking was appreciated since we had over £1000 worth of bikes hanging on the back of the car .... RECOMMENDED !!!!

Room Tip: room 4 is huge and great for families.....

Hotel Orien has two main selling points: the owner and the spa facility. The owner is probably the nicest guy in the world, so friendly and accommodating. And the pool/sauna area, although small, is a little bit of luxury you won't get elsewhere in the city - it's an especially good feature because you book the pool/sauna area privately rather than having to share it with other guests. The pool has a current generator, which means that getting a good work out isn't an issue. There's also a fitness room, but we didn't try that out.

For the price I doubt you will find better - I did a fair amount of searching online and this hotel clearly stood out. The art deco building has real character and the rooms are comfortable, clean and well-presented. This isn't a high-end establishment, but the modernisation of the rooms has been well-executed, especially the bathrooms. Rooms are minimalist but cater for all essential needs.

Hotel is in a quiet area, in walking distance from main train station. Walking to Gent town centre is a fair old trek, but nearby bus provides easy access to the town (buses run every 15 mins, takes about 10-15 mins to town centre). Also trams are available from the train station.

Room Tip: Best to check with hotel which rooms are quietest. We had a room under the stairs which was rather n...
