“great if you want to be near centre”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 7 April 2013

Stayed 5 nights during the cold February 2013 and really enjoyed it. Nice room although not huge. Warm and very clean. The bathroom was great although the bath towels were a bit small. Good job I am only 178 cm. The minibar was nice but I really could have done with a kettle to make some coffee. Breakfast is a big affair with a huge choice and delicious cakes but at 20 euro a head really only worthwhile if you have a big appetite. I prefer to eat normally and pay less. On the positive - all the staff where extremely pleasant and helpful. Also, the location is excellent. It's just a few minutes walk from the epicentre of Ghent and the main canal and easily accessible by car. I couldn't imagine a better position.

Looking around for a short break in Be;gium for my wife and I and grandson home form uni, Ghent was recommended as a very interesting city, oft ignored, with great hotels and restaurants.
It turned out to be just that from 18th to 21st March 2013.
We stayed in two rooms at the charming, friendly and efficient Hotel de Flandre.
An excellent hotel close to the centre of Ghent, comfortable and interesting rooms in an historically interesting beautiful and well looked after building.
Great value for money and period charm.
Breakfasts covered a fantastic choice of cereals, yoghurts foods hot and cold plus fruit.in abundance overa three hour slot until 10am.
The cold ouitside was allayed by the comfort of the hotel and the warmth of the welcome and subsequent care.

I could be a bit caustic about this hotel if I wanted to - we arrived at 2pm and our room wasn't ready; there was some intermittent night noise, possibly from the lift or maybe an air conditioning generator; worse yet there was no ice for the sacred night time gin and tonic! - however, I don't want to criticize what is a great hotel.

On the basis that location, location, location is everything, this hotel scores well, being in central Ghent and its amazing architecture, bars and restaurants.

Our room was large and well-equipped, the bathroom was good too. The hotel doesn't seem to do lunch or dinner (we weren't too sure what they did do, as there was no information in our room, which is pretty unusual, but not a problem), but the buffet breakfast is a great example of how do it well.

However, what made this hotel stand head and shoulders above most others is the friendliness of the staff. They all speak perfect English, of course, and are very friendly. It is very rare that we have ever discussed the painter Breughel with a bar maid (who doubles up as receptionist), but we did here! We were there two nights and both people serving drinks were happy to talk (in fact, try stopping them!).

If you do go here (and we recommend you do) then try and get a room at the back, which may be quieter.

Room Tip: Try a room at the back.

Just travelled to Belgium and snowed in. Lucky to have booked this hotel, clean and warm, good location, parking just round the corner, reception staff helpful. Have stayed at this hotel previously mainly for location and standard. Impressed by new breakfast room and quallity and choice for breakfast. Visit Belgium regularly so will stay here again.

Stayed here for 3 nights last week and was generally happy -apart from being woken at 7am with various noises due to maintenance work one morning!!
Staff are friendly, free wifi.
The breakfast is good but we had a deal and dont think i would pay the full price. Good selection of cereals, bread, cheese, meats and pastries/cakes, limited hot choice.
Loved the design and 'feel' of the place but its looking a little tired in places-cracked picture in room, torn window net, carpet stains etc.
Room was always hot-had windows open all night
Great location, just a short walk to the restaraunts and bars
Would stay here again

Room Tip: Not sure I would bother with an Executive Room again. Bathroom is huge but a waste of space

The hotel is located in the city center, with parking garages nearby. The rooms are very nice, ours was one of the smaller ones, but still nice enough and all you need in a room for a nice stay in Ghent. The hotel is clean, very decent, staff is very friendly and helpful.

The breakfast is just amazing. They have everything, pancakes, bacon and eggs, sweet pies, different rolls, and so much more. We really enjoyed it. Staff was also fast in filling everything up. Breakfast time is from 7AM-11AM, so you can sleep in.

I would definitely stay again in this hotel when going to Ghent.
