I had high expectations when visiting Publiek, as the chef is a Flemish Foodie and the former chef of Volta (which is my personal favorite).

Unfortunately he didn't live up to it.

Some things to improve:
- We were seated next to the bar, behind a couple who were eating at the bar. When I turned my head I was looking at the gentlemans behind.
- We had to wait 20 mins before someone came to our table.
- The cava was not cold.
- The starter, chicken wrapped in cabbage served cold, was not tastful.
- The whine list was presented, but no recommandation was done.
- The hostess talks about her clients to other clients, which isn't very professional.

Some good things:
- The second starter, guacamole with shrimps, was excellent. I would have loved more dishes of that standard.
- The staff was friendly.
- A nice renovation of an old building.

Maybe till next year (or not).

This visit is definitely one of the top visits of 2014! Young, innovative, creative, experimenting, adventurous, quality products, friendly, hospitable and what extraordinary tastes! Not expensive for what you get on your plate. Definitely a repeat visit later this year. Congrats to the chef, his team in kitchen and in restaurant!!

My expectations are always rather high when entering a restaurant where a reservation needs to be made over a month in advance, and I can say that all of them were met. The food was excellent: the 5-course dinner offers a nice variety of dishes and flavours and was made with the finest local produce. The price (55 € for 5 courses) is really not high given the quality of the food served.

the setting was nice and modern without desperately wanting to be contemporary or trendy. Service was friendly and professional. Certainly a place I'd recommement to everybody who enjoys an upscale meal.

At Publiek you can dress down and feel at ease. The chef Olly uses simple ingredients, but does extraordinary things with them. The menu is a succesion of surprises and if you look at what you get related to what you pay, this is most certainly value for money.
