The staff is very friendly and helpful. The hotel is close to the historical center, faces a canal, and is very close to many good restaurants. But if you have perfume allergies, watch out: while the room did not smell like perfume, the open areas of the hotel, which is wide open (kind of like an Embassy Suites with an interesting external view of the top of an ancient castle), really reek of perfume. You notice it every time you step in the door from outside or out the door from you room. The room is reasonably sized, clean, and has the usual amenities. The fitness center has only machines and free weights: no floor mats, exercise ball, weight machines, etc., but it's big and private and doesn't stink of perfume.

This is one of the best hotels I have ever stayed at. Rooms are very very nice, the staff is remarkably courteous. Breakfast is great. It is located in one of the best locations a hotel can be established. It's a pity that we stayed there only for one night. I would definitely love to go back to this hotel and to this city.

Room Tip: Just reserve the hotel in advance for a good rate/points.

A very attractive hotel right in the centre of Ghent. Although more aimed at the business customer, we still enjoyed this touch of luxury. Room was big, with comfortable King sized bed and an ample number of pillows! Ours was a standard guest room and we were asked if we wished to upgrade to a room with a canal-side view at 60 Euros more. This would have meant a total cost inc city tax of 215 Euros for a single night - not for us! Having decided not to pay the extra for the view we were still a little disappointed that the view we did have was of a brick wall and it was not possible to open the window!
Having said that, we enjoyed our stay and were very impressed with the service we recieved from the staff on the Reception desk. One member of staff even came with us to help us move our car nearer to the hotel and directed us to St Michael's car park. An easy walk and only 10 Euros to park for the day.
Breakfast was a wide variety of cooked foods and the usual continental selections. We were given a table by the window (worth asking for). The view really is fabulous, even if we decided it wasn't worth 60 euros!
To sum up, this was a typical Marriot hotel - style, luxury and great service, if a little 'corporate'.

We stayed just for one night at the Marriott (Ghent) and were very impressed - the location next to the main canal is ideal, just walk out of the hotel and straight onto a boat for a trip around the interesting canal system.
The staff at the hotel are extremely professional and welcoming and the rooms very comfortable and spotlessly clean.
Relaxing over a drink in the hugely impressive glass-walled bar / lounge is a must after a day's sight-seeing.
Finally, I must heap praise on the restaurant ...... the food was absolutely exquisite !
Our waitresses were very attentive and our dining room had a glass wall so that diners could watch the chefs preparing the food ....... absolutely fascinating !
Of course you have to pay for such a dining experience and our meal for 2 plus a bottle of Cava came to approximately 150 Euros.
Breakfast at 19 Euros per person seemed a little too expensive, so we walked a few metres along the road and had superb warm croissants and coffee in a real Belgian cafe for a fraction of the cost.

Overall, I highly recommend this hotel ....... 1st class !

This hotel is unsurpassed among the Marriotts which I've used. Fantastic desk staff, huge rooms, and a fabulous location. I always have a great time when I come here and this hotel definitely has my highest recommendation.

Room Tip: Pick one on the higher levels if possible.
