This is the second time I have stayed at the Marriott. The hotel has a lovely atrium and large comfortable rooms. All the staff were very friendly and helpful - you can even buy tram tickets from reception. Breakfast had a good selection cereals, fruit, bread and a full English. The hotel is in a great location overlooking the canal, just a short walk from the main market and the castle. It's very easy to get to from Gent Sint Pieters station, either by taxi or tram number 1 to the Korenmarkt.

Hotel is really shining and brand new, with an incredible position in the very middle of the city center. Very comfortable on-site parking, free wifi (which is not usual for Marriott), friendly Customer care and all you should expect from a property belonging to this chain.
A couple of comments for out-of-standard things:
- "Korenhuis" restaurant was definitely a surprise for the very high quality of food, service and location. The sole with puree, caviar and crispy onion was a masterpiece, as well as the Dame Blanche, with a high quality and soft ice cream over a decadent layer of crusty chocolate biscuits. Congratulations.
- breakfast was plentiful but the salty side should be improved in quality.
- room cleaniness was not impeccable: I found a woman collant under the bed (but I have to say the color was absolutely the same of the floor, and it was almost impossible to see it with a quick look) and there was an ink line on my bed sheets. This was black so clearly visible. This should not happen, in my opinion.
All in all, I would come back hoping that the road works in the surroundings are completed soon, as it was quite tricky to find an alternate way to reach the hotel when I found one of the city bridges closed for maintenance (but this is really not hotel fault).

You couldn't ask for much better in terms of location or helpful staff. It's not a historic or particularly interesting building, but in terms of being a base for exploration, it's a solid choice. The back door is directly on the river, and the location in the old town is good for both shopping or eating options.

Not sure why Ghent gets by-passed for visits to Bruges. Ghent has interesting history, art, food and charm. The Marriott is the best place to stay in the city; the scenic squares and dining (at any price point) are all within walking distance. The staff are welcoming, the rooms are what you expect from a Marriott - immaculate, great beds and lovely toiletries. I have stayed here twice and would not think of staying anywhere else in Ghent. PS - If you find the car spaces tight (as they are in most European garages), the bellman will gladly park it for you.

It is fantastic to stay at this marriott hotel in front of the river. It is very close to city center and has its own parking. Staff is friendly and rooms are excellent. you can also rent a bike here for a city tour. take a copy of your free city map

Room Tip: room facing the river are best

Beautifully clean, modern and spacious hotel - uniquely designed with fantastic atrium with all mod cons, but walking outside at the other entrance - WOW! Straight onto the riverside with fantastic historic ambience of the city . This was a great weekend. The hotel is in the centre of everything in this beautiful city. The staff at the hotel were friendly and helpful, just like everyone else in Ghent. Nothing too much trouble. If you want to get to the hotel from the train station just pop on a tram - only 1.3 euros. Cathedral, Castle, River....what is there not to love about this place. Plus beer, chocolates and great restaurants - just make sure you book for Saturday evenings.

This hotel is truly unique. The first impression is of a nice modern hotel with a beautiful open sky lounge. The rooms of the modern wing are quite spacious, comfortable and very clean. But the real surprise awaits once you leave the property through the front canal entrance. You find yourself in the historical center of Ghent, right on the quay of the river. It feels like magic and that sensation follows you further while exploring (by foot!) this medieval gem town. Marriott has made a very successful merge of the modern comfort and historical ambiance. The staff is very friendly and polite. Parking is on the expensive side, but we parked 200 meters down the street for a much more reasonable rate. The breakfast is plentiful and is served in the romantic old part of the hotel facing the river and the picturesque quay.
