“Best Location - Great Service!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 11 August 2014

Our experience in Ghent was heightened by our great experience in Marriott Hotel. The location is perfect (with good and reasonable parking rate). Kudos to the front desk staff (both days) who were very eager to guide us through the city - you can feel their sincerity in our conversation. The housekeeping staff (of Asian decent) were also very nice and greets us with smile! The hotel is modern, rooms so spacious, very CLEAN and in a typical Marriott fashion, the beds/pillows were great!

We booked 2 rooms for my family and our friends who flew from the states -- both families had the best time of our trip!

Room Tip: Book via website - you can have good rates!

We recently returned from a 2 night stay at the Ghent Marriott and I must say that we could not have been happier with the Hotel.

We were originally contemplating a stay in Bruges but decided to use Ghent as our home base for exploring and chose the Ghent Marriott as our hotel. For those trying to decide between the 2 towns, I would urge you to consider Ghent tan the Marriott in particular.

As others have indicated, it sits right on the most beautiful section of the canal where everything is within a few minute stroll. Our children loved walking across the bridge to get their daily dose of waffles and ice cream; and all of the restaurants and pubs were within a 5 minute walk from the hotel.

While we thoroughly enjoy Bruges, we must preferred Ghent because everything was so close to the hotel (2 minutes to the canal boats, 3 minutes to the waffle and ice cream shop; 5 minutes to scores of pubs and restaurants and 5 minutes to the wonderful castle). Ghent also is a town that has lots of sole. It is a town where folks live; but it also has a good mix of tourists. So for those looking to get away from a pure tourist town, the Ghent Marriott is ideal.

Now for the hotel. The staff were so very helpful. They did all they could to provide us with the rooms that best suited our family and provided excellent advise on places to see and explore. We are Marriott Platinum members and the breakfast provided in the hotel restaurant was outstanding.

The rooms at the hotel were very nice; but they could probably use an upgrade in due time; but with that said, the beds were extremely comfortable and well situated.

I suppose my take on the hotel is this. If the rooms were a bit more lavish, it would be one of the nicest Marriott properties anywhere. The location is superb, the staff exceptional and the Town of Ghent is priceless.

We will hopefully have a chance someday soon to visit this hotel again. It was that special!

Room Tip: Can't beat the Canal View rooms; but there are only a handful...

I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Ghent. The staff were all very professional, knowledgeable and friendly. A couple of small problems were dealt with immediately and efficiently. Breakfast is a feast to appeal to everyone's tastes and the location is superb - on the bank of the canal, central and beautiful. The city is lovely (I recommend the Art Gallery), food and wine good and shopping interesting. Taxis are cheap. Add in half price happy hour on Friday evening at the hotel and you have a perfect city break. GO!

Located right on one of the main canals in the middle of the old district. All of the tourist attractions - and huge choice of great bars and restaurants - are within a few minutes' walk. Underground hotel car park convenient but a bit steep at Euro 23, especially if staying only one night. Great breakfast selection - includes smoked salmon and waffles! Rooms are very decent - typical Marriott style - clean and functional. Comfortable armchairs - the kind you can really relax in. Staff were happy and friendly. Hotel bar was surprisingly good and not over-priced. Overall, not a hotel if you are on a budget, but we felt it was worth the extra expense for the overall quality.

Stayed at the Marriott, Gent last summer and back again this August for a couple of nights. The view is still stunning. We had a beautiful room in the top of the old building overlooking the canal. Excellent location in the heart of the city, great for exploring this wonderful place. The room was clean with everything you could wish for. The only change from last year was that they have done away with the mini bar and now have a shop opposite reception. Being English we would really have liked some milk in our room as a kettle and tea are provided. Managed to get some the second time we called down to reception. I missed the beautiful chocolates that were left for us last visit. Having said that I will definitely stay here again when we return to Belgium. I recommend parking in Parking 7, next to St. Michael's church, secure and 11 euros for 24 hours.
Tip, they are having a new restaurant opening at the end of August. The Coeur d' Artichaut is transferring from its current location behind St. Michael's church.

Room Tip: Book a room overlooking the Canal but you do get early morning cleaning up noise.

Stayed one night while visiting friends in Germany. Two couples each had a king guest room. Room was clean, staff polite and views were great. The price was good for the location, and the surrounding area was spectacular. There were lots of historic sites, restaurants and clubs.

So - it's a Marriott, what did you expect? Inside it's the same as many other Marriotts, but the staff are exemplary, they were extremely accommodating, friendly, and I couldn't fault them. The location is perfect, right in the middle of the old part of town, right next to good restaurants, and 5 minutes walk from Patershol, which is becoming a great foodie area! If we ever go back to Ghent, this is where I want to stay...

Room Tip: We had a Superior room, which has a canal outlook, extremely quiet despite that, the only noise we e...
