Just spent two nights in August at this wonderful hotel in the delightful city of Ghent. The hotel is ideally placed on the Korelai which is in the centre of the old district. Our room was comfortable with desk, two armchairs, large comfortable double bed and practical with plenty of space for cases and your belongings. The lighting in the room was particularly good. The bathroom had a shower over the bath with nice toiletries. The other thing we liked is that the hotel provides tea and coffee facilities in the room with no minibar but a fridge with an ice bucket which you can fill up in the hotel and glasses to use thus enabling you to have your own drinks, juices etc if you prefer. What makes this hotel special is the very helpful and pleasant staff. The hotel lobby is modern, airy and light with comfortable chairs to sit on with newspapers provided. There is a great buzzy atmosphere in this hotel which has it's own restaurant. There is a happy hour between 17.00 - 19.00 on Fridays with half price drinks and free finger food, although not all drinks are included so check first. Breakfast is not included so we decided not to pay the 24 euros and instead went to one of the many cafés. Ghent was just lovely with great cafés and restaurants. The tourist information service provides useful leaflets on restaurants that have been reviewed by local people in the city. I visited the Design Museum which is only a stones throw from the hotel and would highly recommend it for those interested in furniture design and the decorative arts. The collection of art nouveau furniture, vases and glass was fantastic. Can't wait to return to Ghent at a different time of year as August was obviously busy and it would have been nice to see one of the concerts at the forthcoming festival in September.

We stayed at the Marriott Gent for two nights and can confirm the positive reviews here. The place is excellently managed, with slightly small but well appointed and soundproof rooms, excellently comfortable beds, excellent wifi reception and above all, perfectly friendly and helpful staff. We booked a special birthday package and I was even treated on a birthday song from the ladies running the bar. The breakfast area, contrary to many other hotels is very pleasant and atmospheric with again nice staff and the best perfectly warm and fluffy scrambled eggs I enjoyed in a European hotel.
Are there no negative points? Well, one of the elevators was out of service which led to sometimes inconvenient waiting times and why are there no stairs leading to the lobby? (or did we not search thoroughly enough?)
Overall a very recommendable experience and we are certain that upon visiting Gent we will stay at the Marriott again. Highly recommended.

We stayed at the Marriott Ghent the third week of August. It is a wonderful hotel, with an incredible staff that goes out of their way to please a guest. I would actually rate it 4 1/2 stars, but not quite 5. Upon arrival, we waited a very long time for our room to be ready due to slow housekeeping. The manager compensated us with a nice bottle of red wine sent to our room. The hotel is beautifully situated on a Ghent canal, in a central location with an amazing view. The breakfast buffet is one of the best in Europe. The quality of the fresh artisan breads, croissants, and fresh squeezed juices was exceptional. You can also make your own Belgian waffles. The bar/lounge area is bright, clean, with a lovely ambience. Bar Manager, Rene, is extremely professional with great knowledge of wine. There is a Happy Hour on Friday afternoons with free appetizers for guests. Kiel, at the front desk, is so cordial, and knows everything about Ghent to help with itineraries. We have a very pleasant stay. I would highly recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: Choose a room overlooking the canal.

We have just returned from a stay at this hotel and it is still as wonderful as ever. We have stayed there for a short city break six or seven times in six years. Ghent itself is lovely and this hotel is right in the middle. The staff are lovely, helpful and very efficient, the ambience of the place is very good indeed and the cocktails are to die for. Love it, love it, love it! The rooms are great with a huge bed and soft pillows. The food is good too. I truly can't think of anything bad to say about it. And this time as an added bonus, I stupidly left a dress and a shirt in the wardrobe, they are going to parcel them up and send them to us.

Room Tip: Just book. All the rooms are good!

The reviews were very positive which is why I selected this hotel and there are good features. Probably one of the best aspects is the location - right on the river by the departure point for one of the river boat trips and nice bars where you can sit outside and watch Ghent go by (weather permitting). The hotel is close to the design museum which is definitely worth a visit. Shops, trams and other attractions are all an easy walk across the bridge. However, during our stay there were some issues. There are internal upgrade works going on to the restaurant (which was closed) and the corridors and rooms. The work was very noisy and unfortunately due to heavy rain for 2 days of our 4 day stay we hoped to spend time relaxing in the lounge/bedroom - impossible due to noise and dust.
Also breakfast was not included in our deal and they proposed to charge 24 Euros per person (party of 4) per night! There are good bakeries and cafes nearby where we went instead and spent less than 24 Euros in total per time for 4 of us!!
As others have noted, the best thing about this hotel is the bed, which is very comfortable. They also provide a kettle in the room and an empty fridge for you to fill up from the 'shop' in the lobby or from local food shops (our chosen option). Other than this, the hotel is not particularly special and it lacks character internally - although the river facade is beautiful. We found variations in staff service - some very helpful indeed, others were indifferent.

Room Tip: If you want a room with fresh air, this is problematic as most of the windows are fixed and you have...

Hotel was great, fantastic bar area, very modern and the rooms are lovely and clean. The bed was one of the most comfortable I've ever sleeper in. The staff are very friendly too. It is ideally located to everything, and as soon as you walk out you are on one of the river banks which is gorgeous, very picturesque! Only advise I would give, is to try and get breakfast as part of your deal as otherwise it is VERY expensive, only get a taxi from the train station as you'll never find it if you are walking. Should only cost about 7e in a taxi. I would definitely stay here again.
