Just spent two nights in August at this wonderful hotel in the delightful city of Ghent. The hotel is ideally placed on the Korelai which is in the centre of the old district. Our room was comfortable with desk, two armchairs, large comfortable double bed and practical with plenty of space for cases and your belongings. The lighting in the room was particularly good. The bathroom had a shower over the bath with nice toiletries. The other thing we liked is that the hotel provides tea and coffee facilities in the room with no minibar but a fridge with an ice bucket which you can fill up in the hotel and glasses to use thus enabling you to have your own drinks, juices etc if you prefer. What makes this hotel special is the very helpful and pleasant staff. The hotel lobby is modern, airy and light with comfortable chairs to sit on with newspapers provided. There is a great buzzy atmosphere in this hotel which has it's own restaurant. There is a happy hour between 17.00 - 19.00 on Fridays with half price drinks and free finger food, although not all drinks are included so check first. Breakfast is not included so we decided not to pay the 24 euros and instead went to one of the many cafés. Ghent was just lovely with great cafés and restaurants. The tourist information service provides useful leaflets on restaurants that have been reviewed by local people in the city. I visited the Design Museum which is only a stones throw from the hotel and would highly recommend it for those interested in furniture design and the decorative arts. The collection of art nouveau furniture, vases and glass was fantastic. Can't wait to return to Ghent at a different time of year as August was obviously busy and it would have been nice to see one of the concerts at the forthcoming festival in September.
