This is one of the few places which deserves to be regarded as truly exceptional. The private mansion of Baron Verhaegen, it has been converted by an all male staff of three (plus a very friendly chocolate labrador dog) into a paradise of five rooms only, where you do not feel like a customer, more like a guest in a private home. The Suite Années 40 is a real apartment, complete with works of art from the 17th to the 20th century. The garden and the breakfast room are memorable (no restaurant, however). Not cheap, but worth every cent.

My wife and I spent one night at this Ghent B&B, It was first class at the price of business class. Quiet, luxurious, 'boutique' style..
Close (5 minutes walk) from the center.
Hosts are helpful and friendly.
We liked the atmosphere, the decoration, the bathroom with a vintage radio, the breakfast.

We discovered Hôtel Verhaegen in 2007. We have been returning every year since and every year has confirmed our first experience. HV is unique as a location. It certainly is unique interior designwise, as the owners pull out the stops to showcase their core business activity. And it is unique in the way Jan, Marc & Peter host you. A wonderful time guaranteed.

Oke it isn't the cheapest b&b in Gent but mostly the most romantic one! Great rooms and a excellent breakfast wich is served in you room or in the diner from 17th century. You wonder yourself in the past if you stay here. Very vriendly staff wich takes all the time to get you around! They will see us back!

This beautiful, restored private home is decorated beautifully to recapture a bygone era, and offers a truly unique experience in the heart of a lovely, too-little-visited city. You will be treated like a king (or queen) by the perfect couple who run this B&B (with help from another lovely soul.) We literally were welcomed on the street, as we got out of a taxi, and escorted inside ... and back in time.

Breakfast in the dining room or the perfect little garden is served on silver, with every touch just so.

The rooms are spectacular (we slept under a chandelier) and larger than most in Europe; the beds and bath are fully modern and completely comfortable. The flat-screen TV looks out of place amid the artwork in the room ... but was a welcome connection to home.

The centre of Ghent -- the beautiful canals, the many open plazas, the shopping and dozens of cafes -- is 10 minutes away, and the museums are a gorgeous 20-minute walk through the park.

What a beautiful place.

We were very surprised of reading these negative reviews; when we arrived we had such a lovely welcome in hotel verhaegen. It was personal en we had immediately a nice feeling of being at home “ away from home”. At the same time we were overwhelmed of the beauty of this building, pure 18th century and with the most beautiful objects decorated. Even now being at home I have the feeling I still haven’t seen everything!
Our bedroom was like a dream, we had a large room and bathroom with bad. We had a real four-poster bed and we were looking over of a typical French garden when we had our late afternoon aperitif of rosé-champagne of the minibar. One of the owners brought us an ice bucket and two glass, the moment was complete and we enjoyed the moments on our luxury room.
Hotel Verhaegen was situated in the centre of Ghent, although we had no disturbance of noisy traffic and it was possible for us to do everything by feet. We think Ghent is a really lovely city with a character, we can surely recommend both!
