“Terrific food in stylish setting”
Reviewed 4 May 2014

Very good food, stylish setting, dog friendly, but the usual terrible flanders servce. Why is all the service in this region so off hand?

“The better brasserie in the heart of Gent”
Reviewed 22 September 2013

Keizershof is big brasserie close to all the main historic attractions of the beautiful city of Gent.

It has a (limited) selection of local foods and snacks which are prepared correctly in large enough portions and at a correct price.
The service is friendly but not pushy and you will get your food within 20-30 minutes after ordering even at peak times.

If you are a vegetarian you will probably not want to go there, I don't think they have anything on the menu without meat or fish.

The place can be really busy (and loud) during the week-ends, so you may want to make reservations (via the website) in advance. I did it the day before and got a confirmation a few hours later, so they actually check their e-mail!

“Lively busy brasserie with good food”
Reviewed 31 August 2013

We came here twice on our holiday as we really enjoyed the food and atmosphere. Steak and chips with pepper sauce was tastey and my husband thought the spag bol was really good. Nothing revolutionary but a buzy brasserie with good food.

“Great value for money”
Reviewed 3 July 2013 via mobile

Not only great value for money, but also a cool setting. A nice authentic 'brasserie' in the heart of Ghent.

“Simple, honest local food at a correct price”
Reviewed 29 June 2013

First a couple of reasons why you should NOT go and have lunch/dinner there:

- Don't go if you want to spend a quiet, romantic evening: the place is bustling, quite noisy, food service moves along at a good clip and the waitstaff don't have time for personal attention
- Don't go if you want to explore the summits of Belgian gastronomy: food preparation happens on a more or less industrial scale and the food, while representative for the local cuisine, is not handcrafted and beautifully presented.
- Don't go if you want a menu card that's a mile long: in total I guess there are about 5 starters and 7 or 8 mains to be chosen from, plus desert. If you're the type of person who wants things just so -like yours truly- then think hard before booking that table because as I mentioned, things happen on an industrial scale so customising menu items beyond swapping out french fries for bread -but not for boiled potatoes- is simply not possible.

Enough with the negativism: if you're looking for a restaurant where you can sample some local Belgian/Flemish dishes at an excellent price/quality ratio then by all means pay them a visit, you could do a lot worse while staying in Gent. The food really is representative for what locals eat -yes, even the spaghetti bolognese- and prepared in a correct way. They have a limited but good selection of wines and beers available at very reasonable prices and the food is prepared the way a typical weekday hot meal would be prepared in the average household. It's not refined, you won't find elaborate plating or silver cutlery but it's quick, tasty and filling. Portions are, btw, quite large. I daresay that a normal person with a healthy appetite will not leave hungry. In conclusion, I gave them a 4/5 rating. Actually I think 3.5 out of 5 would have been correct but having to pick between 3 and 4, a 3 would have been incorrect. Booking a table is essential as the place fills up quickly.
